因為知道你們得贖，脫去你們祖先傳下的妄行，不是憑著能壞的金銀等物，

因為知道你們得贖放、脫離你們祖傳徒勞無效的生活、不是用能朽壞的東西、銀子或金子，

因為你們知道，你們被救贖，脫離祖先所傳下來的虛妄行為，不是憑著會朽壞的東西，如銀子或金子，

緣知爾見贖、脫祖父所傳之妄行、非以金銀可壞之物、

爾蹈祖愆得見贖者、知不以剝蝕之金銀、

蓋爾之妄行、由爾祖所傳者、爾得贖以脫之、知非以金銀可壞之物、

應知爾等之得脫於習俗之羈絆其贖價非屬可朽之金銀、

For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your ancestors,

You were set free from an empty way of life. This way of life was handed down to you by your own people of long ago. You know that you were not bought with things that can pass away, like silver or gold.

For you know that God paid a ransom to save you from the empty life you inherited from your ancestors. And it was not paid with mere gold or silver, which lose their value.

For you know that you were redeemed from your empty way of life inherited from your ancestors, not with perishable things like silver or gold,

knowing that you were not redeemed with perishable things like silver or gold from your futile way of life inherited from your forefathers,

knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver or gold, from your aimless conduct received by tradition from your fathers,

knowing that ye were redeemed, not with corruptible things, with silver or gold, from your vain manner of life handed down from your fathers;

For you know that you were redeemed from your empty way of life inherited from the fathers, not with perishable things like silver or gold,

Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things,[ as] silver and gold, from your vain conversation[ received] by tradition from your fathers;

You know that from your empty way of life inherited from your ancestors you were ransomed– not by perishable things like silver or gold,

knowing that you were redeemed, not with corruptible things, with silver or gold, from the useless way of life handed down from your fathers,

for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.

who gave himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to purify for himself a people for his own possession who are zealous for good works.

You were bought with a price; do not become bondservants of men.

Now this I say and testify in the Lord, that you must no longer walk as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their minds.

who gave himself for our sins to deliver us from the present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father,

Truly no man can ransom another, or give to God the price of his life,for the ransom of their life is costly and can never suffice,

For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened.

Put no trust in extortion; set no vain hopes on robbery; if riches increase, set not your heart on them.

so that the tested genuineness of your faith— more precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire— may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.

and again,“ The Lord knows the thoughts of the wise, that they are futile.”

For the time that is past suffices for doing what the Gentiles want to do, living in sensuality, passions, drunkenness, orgies, drinking parties, and lawless idolatry.

At that time it will be said to this people and to Jerusalem,“ A hot wind from the bare heights in the desert toward the daughter of my people, not to winnow or cleanse,

“ And I said to their children in the wilderness,‘ Do not walk in the statutes of your fathers, nor keep their rules, nor defile yourselves with their idols.

Thus says the Lord:“ For three transgressions of Judah, and for four, I will not revoke the punishment, because they have rejected the law of the Lord, and have not kept his statutes, but their lies have led them astray, those after which their fathers walked.

Do not be like your fathers, to whom the former prophets cried out,‘ Thus says the Lord of hosts, Return from your evil ways and from your evil deeds.’ But they did not hear or pay attention to me, declares the Lord.Your fathers, where are they? And the prophets, do they live forever?But my words and my statutes, which I commanded my servants the prophets, did they not overtake your fathers? So they repented and said,‘ As the Lord of hosts purposed to deal with us for our ways and deeds, so has he dealt with us.’”

but have stubbornly followed their own hearts and have gone after the Baals, as their fathers taught them.

O Lord, my strength and my stronghold, my refuge in the day of trouble, to you shall the nations come from the ends of the earth and say:“ Our fathers have inherited nothing but lies, worthless things in which there is no profit.

But we will do everything that we have vowed, make offerings to the queen of heaven and pour out drink offerings to her, as we did, both we and our fathers, our kings and our officials, in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem. “ Why do your disciples break the tradition of the elders? For they do not wash their hands when they eat.”He answered them,“ And why do you break the commandment of God for the sake of your tradition?

“ You stiff-necked people, uncircumcised in heart and ears, you always resist the Holy Spirit. As your fathers did, so do you.Which of the prophets did your fathers not persecute? And they killed those who announced beforehand the coming of the Righteous One, whom you have now betrayed and murdered,
