Solomon conscripted the descendants of all these peoples remaining in the land— whom the Israelites could not exterminate— to serve as slave labor, as it is to this day.

They were children of the people who had lived in the land before the Israelites came. Those people had been set apart to the Lord in a special way to be destroyed. But the Israelites hadn’t been able to kill all of them. Solomon forced them to work very hard as his slaves. And they still work for Israel as slaves to this day.

就說：『迦南該受咒詛；他必給他的弟兄做奴僕的奴僕。』又說：『願永恆主給閃的帳棚祝福；願迦南作閃的奴僕。

以色列人、祭司、利未人、當殿役的、和所羅門僕人、的子孫都住在猶大的市鎮，各在自己的地業中；本省的首領住在耶路撒冷的、有以下這些人：

所羅門僕人的子孫：有瑣太的子孫、瑣斐列的子孫、比路大的子孫、雅拉的子孫、達昆的子孫、吉德的子孫、示法提雅的子孫、哈替的子孫、玻黑列哈斯巴音的子孫、亞米的子孫。當殿役的和所羅門僕人的子孫、共有三百九十二人。

所羅門僕人的子孫：有瑣太的子孫、瑣斐列的子孫、比路大的子孫、

於是永恆主向以色列人發怒，說：『這國的人對我的約、我所吩咐他們祖宗守的、既越犯了，不聽我的聲音，我也不再把約書亞死那時候所遺留下的列國人從他們面前趕出，為的是要藉着這些國的人來試驗以色列人、看他們肯不肯謹守永恆主的道路、而遵行它，像他們祖宗謹守遵行的樣子。』這樣、永恆主就留下這些國的人，不將他們迅速地趕出，也不把他們交在約書亞手裏。以下這些國的人就是永恆主所留下，為要藉着他們來試驗以色列人，一切不曾經驗過迦南任何戰事的人，不過是要叫以色列後代、至少那些從未經驗戰事的、經驗經驗戰事，好得教導而已。所留下的就是：非利士人的五個霸主、和一切迦南人、西頓人，和住利巴嫩山的希未人，從巴力黑們山直到哈馬口。他們在那裏，這是要藉着他們來試驗以色列人，好知道他們肯不肯聽從永恆主的誡命、就是永恆主由摩西經手所吩咐他們祖宗的。

約瑟的子孫說：『那山地容不下我們，並且住山谷之地所有的迦南人、就是住伯善和屬伯善廂鎮的人、以及住耶斯列山谷的人、都有鐵車。』約書亞對約瑟家、以法蓮和瑪拿西人、說：『你們族民多，並且大有勢力，不可只有一鬮之地；山地也要歸於你們；雖是森林，你們也可以砍下來；它的邊界也可以歸於你們；迦南人雖有鐵車，雖然強大，你們也能把他們趕出。』

他們不照永恆主所吩咐他們的、去消滅外族之民，反而和外國人混雜嫁娶，學習他們的行為，事奉他們的偶像：這就成了餌誘自己的網羅。

以下這一段是記載所羅門王為了建造永恆主的殿、和王自己的宮室、跟米羅、耶路撒冷的城牆、夏瑣、米吉多和基色、而徵派苦工人的事。

所羅門王從以色列人中徵派了作苦工的人；這一批作苦工的人共有三萬。

瑪拿西也沒有趕出伯善和屬伯善廂鎮的居民，他納和屬他納廂鎮的居民，多珥和屬多珥廂鎮的居民，以伯蓮和屬以伯蓮廂鎮的居民，米吉多和屬米吉多廂鎮的居民；這些迦南人執意住在那地。到以色列強大了，就使迦南人作苦工，沒有把他們全都趕出。以法蓮也沒有把住基色的迦南人趕出；於是迦南人仍住在基色、在以法蓮中間。西布倫沒有把基倫的居民和拿哈拉的居民趕出；於是迦南人仍住在西布倫中間，成了作苦工的人。亞設沒有把亞柯的居民和西頓的居民趕出，也沒有把亞黑拉、亞革悉、黑巴、亞弗革、和利合的居民趕出；於是亞設人住在那地的居民迦南人中間，因為他們沒有把他們趕出。拿弗他利沒有把伯示麥的居民和伯亞納的居民趕出；於是拿弗他利就住在那地的居民迦南人中間；然而伯示麥和伯亞納的居民卻成了給以色列人作苦工的。亞摩利人把但人擠回山地上，不容他們下到山谷來。亞摩利人執意住在希烈山、亞雅倫、和沙賓，然而約瑟家的手佔了優勢，他們就成了作苦工的人。
