When your people come to their senses in the land where they are held prisoner, they will repent and beg for your mercy in the land of their imprisonment, admitting,‘ We have sinned and gone astray; we have done evil.’

如在虜至之地、思念改悔、懇求於爾曰、我儕犯罪、悖逆作惡、

如在被虜之地、翻然易念、悔改前非、祈求於爾、自陳其過、以負咎戾、

如在被擄之地、問心悔罪、在擄之者地祈主曰、我儕犯罪、我儕違逆、我儕作惡、

and if they have a change of heart in the land where they are held captive, and repent and plead with you in the land of their captors and say,‘ We have sinned, we have done wrong, we have acted wickedly’;

But suppose your people change their ways in the land where they are held as prisoners. They turn away from their sins. They beg you to help them in the land of those who won the battle over them. They say,‘ We have sinned. We’ve done what is wrong. We’ve done what is evil.’

yet if they turn their heart in the land to which they have been carried captive, and repent and plead with you in the land of their captors, saying,‘ We have sinned and have acted perversely and wickedly,’

But in that land of exile, they might turn to you in repentance and pray,‘ We have sinned, done evil, and acted wickedly.’

and when they come to their senses in the land where they were deported and repent and petition you in their captors’ land:“ We have sinned and done wrong; we have been wicked,”

if they take it to heart in the land where they have been taken captive, and repent and implore Your favor in the land of those who have taken them captive, saying,‘ We have sinned and done wrong, we have acted wickedly’;

yet when they come to themselves in the land where they were carried captive, and repent, and make supplication to You in the land of those who took them captive, saying,‘ We have sinned and done wrong, we have committed wickedness’;

I prayed,“ O my God, I am ashamed and embarrassed to lift my face to you, my God! For our iniquities have climbed higher than our heads, and our guilt extends to the heavens.From the days of our fathers until this very day our guilt has been great. Because of our iniquities we, along with our kings and priests, have been delivered over by the local kings to sword, captivity, plunder, and embarrassment– right up to the present time.

Then you will remember, be ashamed, and remain silent when I make atonement for all you have done, declares the sovereign LORD.’”

we have sinned! We have done what is wrong and wicked; we have rebelled by turning away from your commandments and standards.We have not paid attention to your servants the prophets, who spoke by your authority to our kings, our leaders, and our ancestors, and to all the inhabitants of the land as well.“ You are righteous, O Lord, but we are humiliated this day– the people of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem and all Israel, both near and far away in all the countries in which you have scattered them, because they have behaved unfaithfully toward you.O LORD, we have been humiliated– our kings, our leaders, and our ancestors– because we have sinned against you.Yet the Lord our God is compassionate and forgiving, even though we have rebelled against him.We have not obeyed the LORD our God by living according to his laws that he set before us through his servants the prophets.“ All Israel has broken your law and turned away by not obeying you. Therefore you have poured out on us the judgment solemnly threatened in the law of Moses the servant of God, for we have sinned against you.

But if you seek the LORD your God from there, you will find him, if, indeed, you seek him with all your heart and soul.In your distress when all these things happen to you in the latter days, if you return to the LORD your God and obey him( for he is a merciful God), he will not let you down or destroy you, for he cannot forget the covenant with your ancestors that he confirmed by oath to them.

Because he considered and turned from all the sins he had done, he will surely live; he will not die.

I have indeed heard the people of Israel say mournfully,‘ We were like a calf untrained to the yoke. You disciplined us and we learned from it. Let us come back to you and we will do so, for you are the LORD our God.For after we turned away from you we repented. After we came to our senses we beat our breasts in sorrow. We are ashamed and humiliated because of the disgraceful things we did previously.’Indeed, the people of Israel are my dear children. They are the children I take delight in. For even though I must often rebuke them, I still remember them with fondness. So I am deeply moved with pity for them and will surely have compassion on them. I, the LORD, affirm it!

That person sings to others, saying:‘ I have sinned and falsified what is right, but I was not punished according to what I deserved.He redeemed my life from going down to the place of corruption, and my life sees the light!’

We are all like one who is unclean, all our so-called righteous acts are like a menstrual rag in your sight. We all wither like a leaf; our sins carry us away like the wind.No one invokes your name, or makes an effort to take hold of you. For you have rejected us and handed us over to our own sins.Yet, LORD, you are our father. We are the clay, and you are our potter; we are all the product of your labor.LORD, do not be too angry! Take a good look at your people, at all of us!Your chosen cities have become a desert; Zion has become a desert, Jerusalem is a desolate ruin.Our holy temple, our pride and joy, the place where our ancestors praised you, has been burned with fire; all our prized possessions have been destroyed.In light of all this, how can you still hold back, LORD? How can you be silent and continue to humiliate us?

However, when they confess their iniquity and their ancestors’ iniquity which they committed by trespassing against me, by which they also walked in hostility against me( and I myself will walk in hostility against them and bring them into the land of their enemies), and then their uncircumcised hearts become humbled and they make up for their iniquity,I will remember my covenant with Jacob and also my covenant with Isaac and also my covenant with Abraham, and I will remember the land.The land will be abandoned by them in order that it may make up for its Sabbaths while it is made desolate without them, and they will make up for their iniquity because they have rejected my regulations and have abhorred my statutes.In spite of this, however, when they are in the land of their enemies I will not reject them and abhor them to make a complete end of them, to break my covenant with them, for I am the LORD their God.I will remember for them the covenant with their ancestors whom I brought out from the land of Egypt in the sight of the nations to be their God. I am the LORD.’”

“ Nonetheless they grew disobedient and rebelled against you; they disregarded your law. They killed your prophets who had solemnly admonished them in order to cause them to return to you. They committed atrocious blasphemies.Therefore you delivered them into the hand of their adversaries, who oppressed them. But in the time of their distress they called to you, and you heard from heaven. In your abundant compassion you provided them with deliverers to rescue them from their adversaries.“ Then, when they were at rest again, they went back to doing evil before you. Then you abandoned them to their enemies, and they gained dominion over them. When they again cried out to you, in your compassion you heard from heaven and rescued them time and again.And you solemnly admonished them in order to return them to your law, but they behaved presumptuously and did not obey your commandments. They sinned against your ordinances– those by which an individual, if he obeys them, will live. They boldly turned from you; they rebelled and did not obey.You prolonged your kindness with them for many years, and you solemnly admonished them by your Spirit through your prophets. Still they paid no attention, so you delivered them into the hands of the neighboring peoples.

“ When you have experienced all these things, both the blessings and the curses I have set before you, you will reflect upon them in all the nations where the LORD your God has banished you.Then if you and your descendants turn to the LORD your God and obey him with your whole mind and being just as I am commanding you today,

“ I will pour out on the kingship of David and the population of Jerusalem a spirit of grace and supplication so that they will look to me, the one they have pierced. They will lament for him as one laments for an only son, and there will be a bitter cry for him like the bitter cry for a firstborn.

Then you will remember your conduct, and be ashamed when you receive your older and younger sisters. I will give them to you as daughters, but not on account of my covenant with you.

“ Moreover, the LORD who rules over all says:‘ Pay close attention to these things also.

But when he came to his senses he said,‘ How many of my father’s hired workers have food enough to spare, but here I am dying from hunger!I will get up and go to my father and say to him,“ Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you.

may your ear be attentive and your eyes be open to hear the prayer of your servant that I am praying to you today throughout both day and night on behalf of your servants the Israelites. I am confessing the sins of the Israelites that we have committed against you– both I myself and my family have sinned.We have behaved corruptly against you, not obeying the commandments, the statutes, and the judgments that you commanded your servant Moses.Please recall the word you commanded your servant Moses:‘ If you act unfaithfully, I will scatter you among the nations.But if you repent and obey my commandments and do them, then even if your dispersed people are in the most remote location, I will gather them from there and bring them to the place I have chosen for my name to reside.’They are your servants and your people, whom you have redeemed by your mighty strength and by your powerful hand.Please, O Lord, listen attentively to the prayer of your servant and to the prayer of your servants who take pleasure in showing respect to your name. Grant your servant success today and show compassion to me in the presence of this man.” Now I was cupbearer for the king.

In his pain Manasseh asked the LORD his God for mercy and truly humbled himself before the God of his ancestors.When he prayed to the LORD, the LORD responded to him and answered favorably his cry for mercy. The LORD brought him back to Jerusalem to his kingdom. Then Manasseh realized that the LORD is the true God.
