“ Suppose your people go to war against their enemies. It doesn’t matter where you send them. And suppose they pray to you toward the city you have chosen. They pray toward the temple I’ve built for your Name.

“ If your people go out to battle against their enemy, by whatever way you shall send them, and they pray to the Lord toward the city that you have chosen and the house that I have built for your name,

“ If your people go out where you send them to fight their enemies, and if they pray to the Lord by turning toward this city you have chosen and toward this Temple I have built to honor your name,

When your people go out to fight against their enemies, wherever you send them, and they pray to the LORD in the direction of the city you have chosen and the temple I have built for your name,

“ When Your people go out to battle against their enemy, by whatever way You send them, and they pray to the Lord toward the city which You have chosen and the house which I have built for Your name,

“ When you direct your people to march out and fight their enemies, and they direct their prayers to the LORD toward his chosen city and this temple I built for your honor,

“ If your people go out to battle against their enemy, by whatever way you shall send them, and they pray to Yahweh toward the city which you have chosen, and toward the house which I have built for your name;

After the death of Joshua, the Israelites asked the Lord,“ Who of us is to go up first to fight against the Canaanites?”The Lord answered,“ Judah shall go up; I have given the land into their hands.”

“ When your people go to war against their enemies, wherever you send them, and when they pray to you toward this city you have chosen and the temple I have built for your Name,

and David inquired of the Lord,“ Shall I pursue this raiding party? Will I overtake them?”“ Pursue them,” he answered.“ You will certainly overtake them and succeed in the rescue.”

The Lord said to Moses,“ Take vengeance on the Midianites for the Israelites. After that, you will be gathered to your people.”So Moses said to the people,“ Arm some of your men to go to war against the Midianites so that they may carry out the Lord’s vengeance on them.Send into battle a thousand men from each of the tribes of Israel.”So twelve thousand men armed for battle, a thousand from each tribe, were supplied from the clans of Israel.Moses sent them into battle, a thousand from each tribe, along with Phinehas son of Eleazar, the priest, who took with him articles from the sanctuary and the trumpets for signaling.They fought against Midian, as the Lord commanded Moses, and killed every man.Among their victims were Evi, Rekem, Zur, Hur and Reba— the five kings of Midian. They also killed Balaam son of Beor with the sword.The Israelites captured the Midianite women and children and took all the Midianite herds, flocks and goods as plunder.They burned all the towns where the Midianites had settled, as well as all their camps.They took all the plunder and spoils, including the people and animals,and brought the captives, spoils and plunder to Moses and Eleazar the priest and the Israelite assembly at their camp on the plains of Moab, by the Jordan across from Jericho.

When the chariot commanders saw Jehoshaphat, they thought,“ This is the king of Israel.” So they turned to attack him, but Jehoshaphat cried out, and the Lord helped him. God drew them away from him,

The Lord turned to him and said,“ Go in the strength you have and save Israel out of Midian’s hand. Am I not sending you?”

“ Moses my servant is dead. Now then, you and all these people, get ready to cross the Jordan River into the land I am about to give to them— to the Israelites.I will give you every place where you set your foot, as I promised Moses.Your territory will extend from the desert to Lebanon, and from the great river, the Euphrates— all the Hittite country— to the Mediterranean Sea in the west.No one will be able to stand against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you.

Then he rejected the tents of Joseph, he did not choose the tribe of Ephraim;but he chose the tribe of Judah, Mount Zion, which he loved.He built his sanctuary like the heights, like the earth that he established forever.

and said:“ Lord, the God of our ancestors, are you not the God who is in heaven? You rule over all the kingdoms of the nations. Power and might are in your hand, and no one can withstand you.Our God, did you not drive out the inhabitants of this land before your people Israel and give it forever to the descendants of Abraham your friend?They have lived in it and have built in it a sanctuary for your Name, saying,‘ If calamity comes upon us, whether the sword of judgment, or plague or famine, we will stand in your presence before this temple that bears your Name and will cry out to you in our distress, and you will hear us and save us.’“ But now here are men from Ammon, Moab and Mount Seir, whose territory you would not allow Israel to invade when they came from Egypt; so they turned away from them and did not destroy them.See how they are repaying us by coming to drive us out of the possession you gave us as an inheritance.Our God, will you not judge them? For we have no power to face this vast army that is attacking us. We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on you.”All the men of Judah, with their wives and children and little ones, stood there before the Lord.

so David inquired of the Lord, and he answered,“ Do not go straight up, but circle around behind them and attack them in front of the poplar trees.

King Hezekiah and the prophet Isaiah son of Amoz cried out in prayer to heaven about this.

‘ Since the day I brought my people Israel out of Egypt, I have not chosen a city in any tribe of Israel to have a temple built so that my Name might be there, but I have chosen David to rule my people Israel.’

For the Lord has chosen Zion, he has desired it for his dwelling, saying,“ This is my resting place for ever and ever; here I will sit enthroned, for I have desired it.

Then the Lord said to Joshua,“ See, I have delivered Jericho into your hands, along with its king and its fighting men.March around the city once with all the armed men. Do this for six days.Have seven priests carry trumpets of rams’ horns in front of the ark. On the seventh day, march around the city seven times, with the priests blowing the trumpets.When you hear them sound a long blast on the trumpets, have the whole army give a loud shout; then the wall of the city will collapse and the army will go up, everyone straight in.”

When you go to war against your enemies and see horses and chariots and an army greater than yours, do not be afraid of them, because the Lord your God, who brought you up out of Egypt, will be with you.When you are about to go into battle, the priest shall come forward and address the army.He shall say:“ Hear, Israel: Today you are going into battle against your enemies. Do not be fainthearted or afraid; do not panic or be terrified by them.For the Lord your God is the one who goes with you to fight for you against your enemies to give you victory.”

Zerah the Cushite marched out against them with an army of thousands upon thousands and three hundred chariots, and came as far as Mareshah.Asa went out to meet him, and they took up battle positions in the Valley of Zephathah near Mareshah.Then Asa called to the Lord his God and said,“ Lord, there is no one like you to help the powerless against the mighty. Help us, Lord our God, for we rely on you, and in your name we have come against this vast army. Lord, you are our God; do not let mere mortals prevail against you.”The Lord struck down the Cushites before Asa and Judah. The Cushites fled,

And he sent you on a mission, saying,‘ Go and completely destroy those wicked people, the Amalekites; wage war against them until you have wiped them out.’

She sent for Barak son of Abinoam from Kedesh in Naphtali and said to him,“ The Lord, the God of Israel, commands you:‘ Go, take with you ten thousand men of Naphtali and Zebulun and lead them up to Mount Tabor.

Then the Lord said to Joshua,“ Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged. Take the whole army with you, and go up and attack Ai. For I have delivered into your hands the king of Ai, his people, his city and his land.You shall do to Ai and its king as you did to Jericho and its king, except that you may carry off their plunder and livestock for yourselves. Set an ambush behind the city.”

The Lord your God himself will cross over ahead of you. He will destroy these nations before you, and you will take possession of their land. Joshua also will cross over ahead of you, as the Lord said.And the Lord will do to them what he did to Sihon and Og, the kings of the Amorites, whom he destroyed along with their land.The Lord will deliver them to you, and you must do to them all that I have commanded you.Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”

so David inquired of the Lord,“ Shall I go and attack the Philistines? Will you deliver them into my hands?” The Lord answered him,“ Go, for I will surely deliver the Philistines into your hands.”

Now go, attack the Amalekites and totally destroy all that belongs to them. Do not spare them; put to death men and women, children and infants, cattle and sheep, camels and donkeys.’”

“ Now, our God, hear the prayers and petitions of your servant. For your sake, Lord, look with favor on your desolate sanctuary.Give ear, our God, and hear; open your eyes and see the desolation of the city that bears your Name. We do not make requests of you because we are righteous, but because of your great mercy.Lord, listen! Lord, forgive! Lord, hear and act! For your sake, my God, do not delay, because your city and your people bear your Name.”
