When your people go out to fight against their enemies, wherever you send them, and they pray to the LORD in the direction of the city you have chosen and the temple I have built for your name,

“ When your people go to war against their enemies, wherever you send them, and when they pray to the Lord toward the city you have chosen and the temple I have built for your Name,

“ Suppose your people go to war against their enemies. It doesn’t matter where you send them. And suppose they pray to you toward the city you have chosen. They pray toward the temple I’ve built for your Name.

“ If your people go out to battle against their enemy, by whatever way you shall send them, and they pray to the Lord toward the city that you have chosen and the house that I have built for your name,

“ If your people go out where you send them to fight their enemies, and if they pray to the Lord by turning toward this city you have chosen and toward this Temple I have built to honor your name,

“ When Your people go out to battle against their enemy, by whatever way You send them, and they pray to the Lord toward the city which You have chosen and the house which I have built for Your name,

“ When Your people go out to battle against their enemy, wherever You send them, and when they pray to the Lord toward the city which You have chosen and the temple which I have built for Your name,

If thy people go out to battle against their enemy, by whatsoever way thou shalt send them, and they pray unto Jehovah toward the city which thou hast chosen, and toward the house which I have built for thy name;

When Your people go out to fight against their enemies, wherever You send them, and they pray to Yahweh in the direction of the city You have chosen and the temple I have built for Your name,

If thy people go out to battle against their enemy, whithersoever thou shalt send them, and shall pray unto the LORD toward the city which thou hast chosen, and[ toward] the house that I have built for thy name:

“ When you direct your people to march out and fight their enemies, and they direct their prayers to the LORD toward his chosen city and this temple I built for your honor,

“ If your people go out to battle against their enemy, by whatever way you shall send them, and they pray to Yahweh toward the city which you have chosen, and toward the house which I have built for your name;

After the death of Joshua, the Israelites inquired of the LORD,“ Who will be the first to fight for us against the Canaanites?”The LORD answered,“ Judah is to go. I have handed the land over to him.”

When your people go out to fight against their enemies, wherever you send them, and they pray to you in the direction of this city you have chosen and the temple that I have built for your name,

and David asked the LORD,“ Should I pursue these raiders? Will I overtake them?” The LORD replied to him,“ Pursue them, for you will certainly overtake them and rescue the people.”

The LORD spoke to Moses,“ Execute vengeance for the Israelites against the Midianites. After that, you will be gathered to your people.”So Moses spoke to the people,“ Equip some of your men for war. They will go against Midian to inflict the LORD’s vengeance on them.Send one thousand men to war from each Israelite tribe.”So one thousand were recruited from each Israelite tribe out of the thousands in Israel— twelve thousand equipped for war.Moses sent one thousand from each tribe to war. They went with Phinehas son of Eleazar the priest, in whose care were the holy objects and signal trumpets.They waged war against Midian, as the LORD had commanded Moses, and killed every male.Along with the others slain by them, they killed the Midianite kings— Evi, Rekem, Zur, Hur, and Reba, the five kings of Midian. They also killed Balaam son of Beor with the sword.The Israelites took the Midianite women and their dependents captive, and they plundered all their cattle, flocks, and property.Then they burned all the cities where the Midianites lived, as well as all their encampments,and took away all the spoils of war and the captives, both people and animals.They brought the prisoners, animals, and spoils of war to Moses, the priest Eleazar, and the Israelite community at the camp on the plains of Moab by the Jordan across from Jericho.

When the chariot commanders saw Jehoshaphat, they shouted,“ He must be the king of Israel!” So they turned to attack him, but Jehoshaphat cried out and the LORD helped him. God drew them away from him.

The LORD turned to him and said,“ Go in the strength you have and deliver Israel from the grasp of Midian. I am sending you!”

“ Moses my servant is dead. Now you and all the people prepare to cross over the Jordan to the land I am giving the Israelites.I have given you every place where the sole of your foot treads, just as I promised Moses.Your territory will be from the wilderness and Lebanon to the great river, the Euphrates River— all the land of the Hittites— and west to the Mediterranean Sea.No one will be able to stand against you as long as you live. I will be with you, just as I was with Moses. I will not leave you or abandon you.

He rejected the tent of Joseph and did not choose the tribe of Ephraim.He chose instead the tribe of Judah, Mount Zion, which he loved.He built his sanctuary like the heights, like the earth that he established forever.

He said: LORD, God of our ancestors, are you not the God who is in heaven, and do you not rule over all the kingdoms of the nations? Power and might are in your hand, and no one can stand against you.Are you not our God who drove out the inhabitants of this land before your people Israel and who gave it forever to the descendants of Abraham your friend?They have lived in the land and have built you a sanctuary in it for your name and have said,“ If disaster comes on us— sword or judgment, pestilence or famine— we will stand before this temple and before you, for your name is in this temple. We will cry out to you because of our distress, and you will hear and deliver.”Now here are the Ammonites, Moabites, and the inhabitants of Mount Seir. You did not let Israel invade them when Israel came out of the land of Egypt, but Israel turned away from them and did not destroy them.Look how they repay us by coming to drive us out of your possession that you gave us as an inheritance.Our God, will you not judge them? For we are powerless before this vast number that comes to fight against us. We do not know what to do, but we look to you.All Judah was standing before the LORD with their dependents, their wives, and their children.

So David inquired of the LORD, and he answered,“ Do not attack directly, but circle around behind them and come at them opposite the balsam trees.

King Hezekiah and the prophet Isaiah son of Amoz prayed about this and cried out to heaven,

“ Since the day I brought my people Israel out of Egypt, I have not chosen a city to build a temple in among any of the tribes of Israel, so that my name would be there. But I have chosen David to rule my people Israel.”

For the LORD has chosen Zion; he has desired it for his home:“ This is my resting place forever; I will make my home here because I have desired it.

The LORD said to Joshua,“ Look, I have handed Jericho, its king, and its best soldiers over to you.March around the city with all the men of war, circling the city one time. Do this for six days.Have seven priests carry seven ram’s-horn trumpets in front of the ark. But on the seventh day, march around the city seven times, while the priests blow the ram’s horns.When there is a prolonged blast of the horn and you hear its sound, have all the troops give a mighty shout. Then the city wall will collapse, and the troops will advance, each man straight ahead.”

“ When you go out to war against your enemies and see horses, chariots, and an army larger than yours, do not be afraid of them, for the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, is with you.When you are about to engage in battle, the priest is to come forward and address the army.He is to say to them,‘ Listen, Israel: Today you are about to engage in battle with your enemies. Do not be cowardly. Do not be afraid, alarmed, or terrified because of them.For the LORD your God is the one who goes with you to fight for you against your enemies to give you victory.’

Then Zerah the Cushite came against them with an army of one million men and three hundred chariots. They came as far as Mareshah.So Asa marched out against him and lined up in battle formation in Zephathah Valley at Mareshah.Then Asa cried out to the LORD his God,“ LORD, there is no one besides you to help the mighty and those without strength. Help us, LORD our God, for we depend on you, and in your name we have come against this large army. LORD, you are our God. Do not let a mere mortal hinder you.”So the LORD routed the Cushites before Asa and before Judah, and the Cushites fled.

and then sent you on a mission and said,‘ Go and completely destroy the sinful Amalekites. Fight against them until you have annihilated them.’

She summoned Barak son of Abinoam from Kedesh in Naphtali and said to him,“ Hasn’t the LORD, the God of Israel, commanded you,‘ Go, deploy the troops on Mount Tabor, and take with you ten thousand men from the Naphtalites and Zebulunites?

The LORD said to Joshua,“ Do not be afraid or discouraged. Take all the troops with you and go attack Ai. Look, I have handed over to you the king of Ai, his people, city, and land.Treat Ai and its king as you did Jericho and its king, except that you may plunder its spoil and livestock for yourselves. Set an ambush behind the city.”

The LORD your God is the one who will cross ahead of you. He will destroy these nations before you, and you will drive them out. Joshua is the one who will cross ahead of you, as the LORD has said.The LORD will deal with them as he did Sihon and Og, the kings of the Amorites, and their land when he destroyed them.The LORD will deliver them over to you, and you must do to them exactly as I have commanded you.Be strong and courageous; don’t be terrified or afraid of them. For the LORD your God is the one who will go with you; he will not leave you or abandon you.”

Then David inquired of the LORD:“ Should I attack the Philistines? Will you hand them over to me?” The LORD replied to David,“ Attack, for I will certainly hand the Philistines over to you.”

Now go and attack the Amalekites and completely destroy everything they have. Do not spare them. Kill men and women, infants and nursing babies, oxen and sheep, camels and donkeys.’”

Therefore, our God, hear the prayer and the petitions of your servant. Make your face shine on your desolate sanctuary for the Lord’s sake.Listen closely, my God, and hear. Open your eyes and see our desolations and the city that bears your name. For we are not presenting our petitions before you based on our righteous acts, but based on your abundant compassion.Lord, hear! Lord, forgive! Lord, listen and act! My God, for your own sake, do not delay, because your city and your people bear your name.
