Are there any among the false gods of the nations that can bring rain? Or can the heavens give showers? Are you not he, O Lord our God? We set our hope on you, for you do all these things.

And in a little while the heavens grew black with clouds and wind, and there was a great rain. And Ahab rode and went to Jezreel.

Blessed is the man whom you discipline, O Lord, and whom you teach out of your law,

Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed fervently that it might not rain, and for three years and six months it did not rain on the earth.Then he prayed again, and heaven gave rain, and the earth bore its fruit.

No one answered; no one paid attention.Then Elijah said to all the people,“ Come near to me.” And all the people came near to him. And he repaired the altar of the Lord that had been thrown down.Elijah took twelve stones, according to the number of the tribes of the sons of Jacob, to whom the word of the Lord came, saying,“ Israel shall be your name,”and with the stones he built an altar in the name of the Lord. And he made a trench about the altar, as great as would contain two seahs of seed.And he put the wood in order and cut the bull in pieces and laid it on the wood. And he said,“ Fill four jars with water and pour it on the burnt offering and on the wood.”And he said,“ Do it a second time.” And they did it a second time. And he said,“ Do it a third time.” And they did it a third time.And the water ran around the altar and filled the trench also with water.And at the time of the offering of the oblation, Elijah the prophet came near and said,“ O Lord, God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, let it be known this day that you are God in Israel, and that I am your servant, and that I have done all these things at your word.Answer me, O Lord, answer me, that this people may know that you, O Lord, are God, and that you have turned their hearts back.”Then the fire of the Lord fell and consumed the burnt offering and the wood and the stones and the dust, and licked up the water that was in the trench.And when all the people saw it, they fell on their faces and said,“ The Lord, he is God; the Lord, he is God.”And Elijah said to them,“ Seize the prophets of Baal; let not one of them escape.” And they seized them. And Elijah brought them down to the brook Kishon and slaughtered them there.

Who is the man who fears the Lord? Him will he instruct in the way that he should choose.

Lead me, O Lord, in your righteousness because of my enemies; make your way straight before me.

Teach me your way, O Lord, that I may walk in your truth; unite my heart to fear your name.

I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my eye upon you.

Good and upright is the Lord; therefore he instructs sinners in the way.

And a highway shall be there, and it shall be called the Way of Holiness; the unclean shall not pass over it. It shall belong to those who walk on the way; even if they are fools, they shall not go astray.

Let me hear in the morning of your steadfast love, for in you I trust. Make me know the way I should go, for to you I lift up my soul.

And they sent their disciples to him, along with the Herodians, saying,“ Teacher, we know that you are true and teach the way of God truthfully, and you do not care about anyone’s opinion, for you are not swayed by appearances.

“ When heaven is shut up and there is no rain because they have sinned against you, if they pray toward this place and acknowledge your name and turn from their sin, when you afflict them,then hear in heaven and forgive the sin of your servants, your people Israel, when you teach them the good way in which they should walk, and grant rain upon your land, which you have given to your people as an inheritance.

And your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying,“ This is the way, walk in it,” when you turn to the right or when you turn to the left.

Rain in abundance, O God, you shed abroad; you restored your inheritance as it languished;
