After a long time, the word of the LORD came to Elijah in the third year:“ Go and present yourself to Ahab. I will send rain on the surface of the land.”

Make your ways known to me, LORD; teach me your paths.Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are the God of my salvation; I wait for you all day long.

Can any of the worthless idols of the nations bring rain? Or can the skies alone give showers? Are you not the LORD our God? We therefore put our hope in you, for you have done all these things.

In a little while, the sky grew dark with clouds and wind, and there was a downpour. So Ahab got in his chariot and went to Jezreel.

LORD, how happy is anyone you discipline and teach from your law

Elijah was a human being as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and for three years and six months it did not rain on the land.Then he prayed again, and the sky gave rain and the land produced its fruit.

Teach me, LORD, the meaning of your statutes, and I will always keep them.

At noon Elijah mocked them. He said,“ Shout loudly, for he’s a god! Maybe he’s thinking it over; maybe he has wandered away; or maybe he’s on the road. Perhaps he’s sleeping and will wake up!”They shouted loudly, and cut themselves with knives and spears, according to their custom, until blood gushed over them.All afternoon they kept on raving until the offering of the evening sacrifice, but there was no sound; no one answered, no one paid attention.Then Elijah said to all the people,“ Come near me.” So all the people approached him. Then he repaired the LORD’s altar that had been torn down:Elijah took twelve stones— according to the number of the tribes of the sons of Jacob, to whom the word of the LORD had come, saying,“ Israel will be your name”—and he built an altar with the stones in the name of the LORD. Then he made a trench around the altar large enough to hold about four gallons.Next, he arranged the wood, cut up the bull, and placed it on the wood. He said,“ Fill four water pots with water and pour it on the offering to be burned and on the wood.”Then he said,“ A second time!” and they did it a second time. And then he said,“ A third time!” and they did it a third time.So the water ran all around the altar; he even filled the trench with water.At the time for offering the evening sacrifice, the prophet Elijah approached the altar and said,“ LORD, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, today let it be known that you are God in Israel and I am your servant, and that at your word I have done all these things.Answer me, LORD! Answer me so that this people will know that you, the LORD, are God and that you have turned their hearts back.”Then the LORD’s fire fell and consumed the burnt offering, the wood, the stones, and the dust, and it licked up the water that was in the trench.When all the people saw it, they fell facedown and said,“ The LORD, he is God! The LORD, he is God!”Then Elijah ordered them,“ Seize the prophets of Baal! Do not let even one of them escape.” So they seized them, and Elijah brought them down to the Wadi Kishon and slaughtered them there.

Who is this person who fears the LORD? He will show him the way he should choose.

LORD, lead me in your righteousness because of my adversaries; make your way straight before me.

Teach me your way, LORD, and I will live by your truth. Give me an undivided mind to fear your name.

I will instruct you and show you the way to go; with my eye on you, I will give counsel.

The LORD is good and upright; therefore he shows sinners the way.

A road will be there and a way; it will be called the Holy Way. The unclean will not travel on it, but it will be for the one who walks the path. Fools will not wander on it.

Let me experience your faithful love in the morning, for I trust in you. Reveal to me the way I should go because I appeal to you.

So they sent their disciples to him, along with the Herodians.“ Teacher,” they said,“ we know that you are truthful and teach truthfully the way of God. You don’t care what anyone thinks nor do you show partiality.

that the LORD your God may tell us the way we should go and the thing we should do.”

When the skies are shut and there is no rain because they have sinned against you, and they pray toward this place and praise your name, and they turn from their sins because you are afflicting them,may you hear in heaven and forgive the sin of your servants and your people Israel, so that you may teach them the good way they should walk in. May you send rain on your land that you gave your people for an inheritance.

and whenever you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear this command behind you:“ This is the way. Walk in it.”

You, God, showered abundant rain; you revived your inheritance when it languished.
