約櫃裏沒有別的，只有兩塊石版，就是以色列人出埃及地，耶和華與他們立約的時候，摩西在何烈山放在那裏的。

「把這律法書拿來，放在耶和華－你們上帝的約櫃旁，可以在那裏作指責你們的見證。

所羅門王和聚集到他那裏的以色列全會眾一同在約櫃前獻牛羊為祭，多得不可勝數，無法計算。祭司將耶和華的約櫃請進內殿，就是至聖所，安置在兩個基路伯的翅膀底下約櫃的地方。

我上了山，要領受兩塊石版，就是耶和華與你們立約的版。那時我在山上住了四十晝夜，沒有吃飯，也沒有喝水。

摩西在耶和華那裏四十晝夜，不吃飯不喝水。他把這約的話，那十條誡命，寫在版上。

過了四十晝夜，耶和華把那兩塊石版，就是約版，交給我。
