那時候，摩西在曠野為耶和華所造的聖幕和燔祭壇都在基遍的高地。

所羅門王獻上兩萬二千頭牛和十二萬隻羊，王和全體民眾為上帝的殿舉行奉獻典禮。

黎巴嫩的樹木不夠作獻祭的燃料，林中的走獸也不夠作燔祭。

我要拿什麼朝見耶和華，在天上的上帝面前叩拜呢？要獻上一歲的牛犢作燔祭嗎？耶和華會喜愛成千的公羊和萬條油河嗎？我要因過犯而獻上自己的長子，因心中的罪惡而獻上親生的骨肉嗎？

耶和華像在基遍一樣再次向他顯現，

猶大王希西迦送給會眾一千頭公牛和七千隻羊，眾官員也送給會眾一千頭公牛和一萬隻羊，並且很多祭司都已潔淨自己。

便大為恐懼。因為基遍是一座大城，宏偉得像座都城，比艾城更大，城中的人都驍勇善戰。

基遍的居民聽說約書亞在耶利哥和艾城所做的事，

會眾獻給耶和華作燔祭的有七十頭公牛、一百隻公綿羊、二百隻羊羔，獻為聖物的有六百頭公牛、三千隻綿羊。但祭司人數太少，剝不完燔祭牲的皮，於是他們的親族利未人就來幫助他們，直到獻完燔祭，並且別的祭司也潔淨了自己，因為利未人比祭司更誠心潔淨自己。他們獻上大量的燔祭，以及很多平安祭祭牲的脂肪和與燔祭同獻的奠祭。從此，耶和華殿裡的事奉恢復了。

所羅門向耶和華獻上兩萬二千頭牛、十二萬隻羊作平安祭，王和以色列眾民為耶和華的殿舉行奉獻典禮。
