那时候，摩西在旷野为耶和华所造的圣幕和燔祭坛都在基遍的高地。

所罗门王献上两万二千头牛和十二万只羊，王和全体民众为上帝的殿举行奉献典礼。

黎巴嫩的树木不够作献祭的燃料，林中的走兽也不够作燔祭。

我要拿什么朝见耶和华，在天上的上帝面前叩拜呢？要献上一岁的牛犊作燔祭吗？耶和华会喜爱成千的公羊和万条油河吗？我要因过犯而献上自己的长子，因心中的罪恶而献上亲生的骨肉吗？

耶和华像在基遍一样再次向他显现，

犹大王希西迦送给会众一千头公牛和七千只羊，众官员也送给会众一千头公牛和一万只羊，并且很多祭司都已洁净自己。

便大为恐惧。因为基遍是一座大城，宏伟得像座都城，比艾城更大，城中的人都骁勇善战。

基遍的居民听说约书亚在耶利哥和艾城所做的事，

会众献给耶和华作燔祭的有七十头公牛、一百只公绵羊、二百只羊羔，献为圣物的有六百头公牛、三千只绵羊。但祭司人数太少，剥不完燔祭牲的皮，于是他们的亲族利未人就来帮助他们，直到献完燔祭，并且别的祭司也洁净了自己，因为利未人比祭司更诚心洁净自己。他们献上大量的燔祭，以及很多平安祭祭牲的脂肪和与燔祭同献的奠祭。从此，耶和华殿里的事奉恢复了。

所罗门向耶和华献上两万二千头牛、十二万只羊作平安祭，王和以色列众民为耶和华的殿举行奉献典礼。
