Jehoshaphat continued,“ First ask the Lord for advice.”

But Jehoshaphat also said to the king of Israel,“ First seek the counsel of the Lord.”

And Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel,“ Inquire first for the word of the Lord.”

Then Jehoshaphat added,“ But first let’s find out what the Lord says.”

But Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel,“ First, please ask what the LORD’s will is.”

However, Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel,“ Please request the word of the Lord first.”

Also Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel,“ Please inquire for the word of the Lord today.”

And Jehoshaphat said unto the king of Israel, Inquire first, I pray thee, for the word of Jehovah.

But Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel,“ First, please ask what the Lord’s will is.”

And Jehoshaphat said unto the king of Israel, Enquire, I pray thee, at the word of the LORD to day.

Then Jehoshaphat added,“ First seek an oracle from the LORD.”

Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel,“ Please inquire first for Yahweh’s word.”

But Jehoshaphat asked,“ Isn’t there a prophet of the Lord here? Can’t we ask the Lord for advice through him?” An officer of the king of Israel answered,“ Elisha is here. He’s the son of Shaphat. Elisha used to serve Elijah.”

All of them said to Jeremiah the prophet,“ Please listen to our appeal. Pray to the Lord your God. Pray for all of us who are left here. Once there were many of us. But as you can see, only a few of us are left now.So pray to the Lord your God. Pray that he’ll tell us where we should go. Pray that he’ll tell us what we should do.”“ I’ve heard you,” Jeremiah the prophet replied.“ I’ll certainly pray to the Lord your God. I’ll do what you have asked me to do. In fact, I’ll tell you everything the Lord says. I won’t keep anything back from you.”Then they said to Jeremiah,“ We’ll do everything the Lord your God sends you to tell us to do. If we don’t, may he be a true and faithful witness against us.It doesn’t matter whether what you say is in our favor or not. We’re asking you to pray to the Lord our God. And we’ll obey him. Things will go well with us. That’s because we will obey the Lord our God.”

He continued,“ First ask the Lord for advice.”So the king of Israel brought 400 prophets together. He asked them,“ Should we go to war against Ramoth Gilead, or not?”“ Go,” they answered.“ God will hand it over to you.”

The Israelites went up to Bethel. There they asked God,“ Who should go up first and fight against the people of Benjamin?” The Lord answered,“ The tribe of Judah will go first.”

Trust in the Lord with all your heart. Do not depend on your own understanding.In all your ways obey him. Then he will make your paths smooth and straight.

Joshua died. After that, the Israelites spoke to the Lord. They asked him,“ Who of us will go up first and fight against the Canaanites?”

Joshua will stand in front of Eleazar the priest. Eleazar will help him make decisions. Eleazar will get help from me by using the Urim. Joshua and the whole community of Israel must not make any move at all unless I command them to.”

“ Ask the Lord to help us. Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon is attacking us. In the past the Lord did wonderful things for us. Maybe he’ll do them again. Then Nebuchadnezzar will pull his armies back from us.”

It was the seventh year since King Jehoiachin had been brought to Babylon as a prisoner. On the tenth day of the fifth month, some of the elders of Israel came to ask the Lord for advice. They sat down with me.Then a message from the Lord came to me. The Lord said,“ Son of man, speak to the elders of Israel. Tell them,‘ The Lord and King says,“ Have you come to ask me for advice? I will not let you do that,” announces the Lord and King.“ And that is just as sure as I am alive.” ’

David asked the Lord for advice. He said,“ Should I chase after the men who attacked Ziklag? If I do, will I catch up with them?”“ Chase after them,” the Lord answered.“ You will certainly catch up with them. You will succeed in saving those who were captured.”

Saul said to Ahijah the priest,“ Bring the ark of God.” At that time it was with the Israelites.

Once again David asked the Lord what he should do. The Lord answered him,“ Go down to Keilah. I am going to hand the Philistines over to you.”

Saul died because he wasn’t faithful to the Lord. He didn’t obey the word of the Lord. He even asked for advice from a person who gets messages from people who have died.

“ Son of man, these men have thought about nothing but other gods. They have fallen into the evil trap of worshiping them. Should I let these men ask me for any advice?

The Israelites looked over the supplies those people had brought. But they didn’t ask the Lord what they should do.

Then Israel hid some men and had them wait all around Gibeah.

So he asked the Lord for advice. He said,“ Should I go and attack those Philistines?” The Lord answered him,“ Go and attack them. Save Keilah.”

David learned that Saul was planning to attack him. So he said to Abiathar the priest,“ Bring the linen apron.”Then David said,“ Lord, you are the God of Israel. I know for sure that Saul plans to come to Keilah. He plans to destroy the town because of me.Will the citizens of Keilah hand me over to him? Will Saul come down here, as I’ve heard he would? Lord, you are the God of Israel. Please answer me.” The Lord said,“ He will come down.”Again David asked,“ Will the citizens of Keilah hand me and my men over to Saul?” And the Lord said,“ They will.”

The Israelites went and wept in front of the Lord until evening. They asked the Lord,“ Should we go up again to fight against the men of Benjamin? They are our fellow Israelites.” The Lord answered,“ Go up and fight against them.”

But the angel of the Lord spoke to Elijah, who was from Tishbe. The angel said,“ Go up to see the messengers of Ahaziah, the king of Samaria. Tell them,‘ You are on your way to ask Baal- Zebub for advice. He is the god of Ekron. Are you going there to pray to that god? Do you think there is no God in Israel?’
