In everything he followed the ways of his father Asa and did not stray from them; he did what was right in the eyes of the Lord. The high places, however, were not removed, and the people continued to offer sacrifices and burn incense there.

Jehoshaphat followed all the ways of his father Asa. He didn’t wander away from them. He did what was right in the sight of the Lord. But the high places weren’t removed. The people continued to offer sacrifices and burn incense at them.

He walked in all the way of Asa his father. He did not turn aside from it, doing what was right in the sight of the Lord. Yet the high places were not taken away, and the people still sacrificed and made offerings on the high places.

Jehoshaphat was a good king, following the example of his father, Asa. He did what was pleasing in the Lord’s sight. During his reign, however, he failed to remove all the pagan shrines, and the people still offered sacrifices and burned incense there.

猶大人亦在各高岡上、各茂樹下、築壇、立柱像與亞舍拉、亞舍拉或作木偶

是時先見哈拿尼來見猶大王亞撒、謂之曰、爾恃亞蘭王、不恃主爾之天主、故亞蘭軍脫於爾手、古實人、路比人、其軍非大乎、車騎非眾乎、爾恃主、主遂付之於爾手、主目遍鑒天下、凡誠心向主者、主力助之、爾於此事、所行愚昧、此後爾必有戰事、亞撒因此言、向先見震怒、囚之於獄、當時亞撒亦虐遇民中數人、亞撒其餘始終之事、俱載於猶大及以色列列王記、亞撒在位三十有九年、其足有疾、其疾甚劇、患疾時、不求問主、但問醫士、

亞撒利雅行善於主前、效其父亞瑪謝所為、惟邱壇尚未廢、民仍於邱壇獻祭焚香、

亞撒為善行義、在主其天主前、除異邦神之祭壇、及邱壇、毀柱像、斷諸亞舍拉、命猶大人尋求主其列祖之天主、遵行主之律法誡命、在猶大諸邑、除邱壇與日像、亞撒在位時國享平康、

亞撒行善於主前、如其祖大衛然、

約沙法懼、立志禱主、遍猶大地諭民禁食、猶大人集、求救於主、自猶大諸邑、皆有人來祈求主、約沙法立於猶大及耶路撒冷之會中、在主殿新院前、禱曰、主我列祖之天主、上天之主宰、治理萬邦萬國、主手有大力大能、無人能拒、我之天主歟、在昔將原居斯土之諸族、逐於主之民以色列人前、以斯土賜於敬愛主敬愛主或作主之友亞伯拉罕之苗裔、使為恆業、今居斯土、且為主之名建造聖所、自謂如遇災害、或鋒刃、或譴責、或疫癘、或饑饉、凡我遭難之時、則立此殿前呼籲主、主必俯聽救援、因主之名在此殿云、昔以色列人出伊及時、遵主之命、不入亞捫摩押及西珥山之境、過而不滅其民、今彼來以惡報我儕、欲逐我於主所賜我為業之地、求我天主責之、此來攻我之群眾、我儕無力捍禦、我儕不知當何所為、我目惟盼望主、猶大人眾、及其妻子、悉立主前、時、利未人雅撒裔、瑪探雅元孫、耶伊葉曾孫、比拿雅孫、撒迦利雅子雅哈細葉、在會中為主之神所感、曰、猶大人眾、耶路撒冷居民、約沙法王、爾其聽之、主告爾如是云、勿因此群眾畏葸恐懼、蓋與敵戰者非爾、乃天主也、明日可下迎敵、必由息斯坡而來、爾必遇之於谷口、近耶魯伊勒野、猶大人、與耶路撒冷民歟、無庸與戰、勿畏葸、勿恐懼、可立而待、必見主之救援、明日可出迎敵、主必祐爾、約沙法鞠躬俯伏於地、猶大人眾與耶路撒冷居民、亦俯伏於主前崇拜主、哥轄族與可拉族之利未人起、大聲頌讚主以色列之天主、明日夙興、往提哥亞之野、將行約沙法立而語之曰、猶大人與耶路撒冷居民、宜聽我言、當信主爾之天主則必堅立、信主之先知則必亨通、約沙法既與民議、使謳歌者衣聖禮服、行於軍前頌讚主曰、當頌美主、因主之恩永遠長存云、甫謳歌頌讚時、主發伏兵、擊來攻猶大之亞捫人、摩押人、及居西珥山人、使之互相攻擊、蓋亞捫人與摩押人起、攻居西珥山之人、以之滅盡、既滅西珥山之人、彼則自相殘殺、猶大人登野中戍樓、戍樓或作高岡向敵眾觀望、見屍橫遍地、無一逃避、約沙法率眾來取敵人之物、在屍中多得貨財、剝之得美衣、珍寶、財物甚多、不能負荷、直取至三日方盡、第四日、集於比拉迦比拉迦譯即頌讚之義谷、頌讚主、故稱其地曰比拉迦谷、至於今日其名尚存、猶大人與耶路撒冷居民、皆歸耶路撒冷、約沙法率之、主使敵喪敗、喜樂不勝、鳴琴、鼓瑟、吹角、至耶路撒冷入主之殿、異族諸國、聞主擊敗以色列人之敵、無不大懼、主賜約沙法平康、四周無事、國享太平、○

爾曹或告我曰、我儕恃主我之天主、乃希西家曾廢其邱壇與祭臺、命猶大人及耶路撒冷居民曰、但當在耶路撒冷在此祭臺前崇拜、

亞撒聞此言、即俄德子先知亞薩利雅之預言、則強心在猶大便雅憫全地、及在以法蓮山所得之邑、除可憎之偶像、重修主殿大廊前主之祭壇、

偏行邪曲道者、主必將其與作惡者同除之、惟願以色列民得享平康、

不顧驕傲人及偏向虛假者、惟倚賴主、其人便為有福、

所有邱壇、雖尚未廢於以色列人中、然亞撒畢生誠心向主、

勿偏於左、勿偏於右、爾足當離惡道、

邪僻之事、不容在我目前、叛逆之事、我最恨惡、不容沾染我身、

蓋大衛除赫人烏利亞一事而外、其餘皆行善於主前、畢生不違主所諭之命、

撒母耳謂民曰、爾勿懼、已行是惡、亦無如之何、惟今而後、勿違棄主、盡心崇事主、毋違棄主、而從無所裨益、不能救援虛無之神、因如斯之神、原屬虛無、

亞瑪謝行善於主前、惟不如其祖大衛所作所為、乃傚其父約阿施、但邱壇尚未廢、民仍於邱壇獻祭焚香、

主祐約沙法、因行其祖大衛昔所行之道、不尋求巴力、尋求其祖父之天主、遵行主之誡命、不效以色列人之所行、主鞏固約沙法之國、猶大人眾、獻禮物於約沙法、約沙法饒有貨財、極其尊榮、奮勇行主之道、自猶大廢諸邱壇與諸亞舍拉、

亞撒籲主其天主曰、主若救援、不視人之多寡強弱、求主我之天主助我、我仰賴主、倚恃主名、來禦此大軍、主乃我之天主、求主勿容人勝主、

速離我所命之之道、鑄犢崇拜祭祀、且云以色列人歟、此即導爾出伊及之神、
