耶和华对基甸说：“我要用这舔水的三百人拯救你们，把米甸交在你手中；其余的百姓都可以各回自己的地方去。”百姓手里拿着食物和角；其余的以色列人，基甸都打发他们各自回到自己的帐棚，只留下这三百人。米甸营在他下边的平原上。

亚兰王吩咐他的三十二个战车长说：“你们不要与他们的大将或小兵交战，只要单单攻击以色列王。”

那时以色列人离开那里，各自回到自己的支派、宗族；他们从那里起行，各自回到自己的地业去了。

于是王起来，坐在城门口。有人告诉众军兵说：“看哪，王坐在城门口。”众军兵就都到王的面前。那时，以色列人已经逃跑，各回自己的帐棚去了。

非利士人进攻，以色列人败了，各往自己的家逃跑。被杀的人很多，以色列倒下的步兵有三万。

‘耶和华如此说：你们不可上去与你们的弟兄以色列人打仗。你们各自回家去吧！因为这事是出于我。’”众人就听从耶和华的话，遵照耶和华的话回去了。

以色列众人见王不依从他们，百姓就回话给王，说：“我们在大卫中有什么份呢？我们在耶西的儿子中没有产业！以色列啊，回你的帐棚去吧！大卫啊，现在你顾自己的家吧！”于是，以色列人都回自己的帐棚去了；

米该雅说：“我看见以色列众人散布在山上，如同没有牧人的羊群一般。耶和华说：‘这些人没有主人，他们可以平安地各自回家去。’”
