猶大人被以色列人擊敗，各人逃回自己的家去了。

耶和華對基甸說：“我要用這舔水的三百人拯救你們，把米甸人交在你們的手裡，所有其他的人都可以各回自己的地方去。”於是眾民手裡拿著食物和號角；所有其他的以色列人，基甸都打發他們各回自己的帳棚去，只留下這三百人。當時米甸營就在他們下面的平原裡。

亞蘭王曾經囑咐他的三十二個戰車長說：“無論大小將兵，你們都不要與他們爭戰，只要與以色列王爭戰。”

那時，以色列人離開那裡，各人回到自己的支派和自己的家族去；他們離開那裡，各人回到自己的地業去。

於是王起來，坐在城門口。有人告訴眾民說：“看哪！王坐在城門口。”於是眾人都來到王的面前。以色列人已經逃跑，各回自己的家去了。

於是非利士人起來作戰，以色列人就被擊敗，各人都往自己的帳棚逃跑。這是一場大屠殺，以色列人中有三萬步兵陣亡。

‘耶和華這樣說：你們不可上去，不可與你們的兄弟以色列人爭戰。你們各自回家去吧！因為這事是出於我。’”眾人就聽從了耶和華的話，照著耶和華的話回家去了。

以色列眾人見王不肯聽從他們的請求，就回答王說：“我們在大衛裡面有甚麼分呢？我們在耶西的兒子裡面也沒有產業；以色列人哪，回你們自己的家去吧！大衛啊，照顧你自己的家吧！”於是以色列人都回自己的家去了。

米該雅說：“我看見以色列人四散在山上，好像沒有牧人的羊群一樣；耶和華說：‘這些人沒有主人，使他們平平安安各自回家吧！’”
