犹大人被以色列人击败，各人逃回自己的家去了。

耶和华对基甸说：“我要用这舔水的三百人拯救你们，把米甸人交在你们的手里，所有其他的人都可以各回自己的地方去。”于是众民手里拿着食物和号角；所有其他的以色列人，基甸都打发他们各回自己的帐棚去，只留下这三百人。当时米甸营就在他们下面的平原里。

亚兰王曾经嘱咐他的三十二个战车长说：“无论大小将兵，你们都不要与他们争战，只要与以色列王争战。”

那时，以色列人离开那里，各人回到自己的支派和自己的家族去；他们离开那里，各人回到自己的地业去。

于是王起来，坐在城门口。有人告诉众民说：“看哪！王坐在城门口。”于是众人都来到王的面前。以色列人已经逃跑，各回自己的家去了。

于是非利士人起来作战，以色列人就被击败，各人都往自己的帐棚逃跑。这是一场大屠杀，以色列人中有三万步兵阵亡。

‘耶和华这样说：你们不可上去，不可与你们的兄弟以色列人争战。你们各自回家去吧！因为这事是出于我。’”众人就听从了耶和华的话，照着耶和华的话回家去了。

以色列众人见王不肯听从他们的请求，就回答王说：“我们在大卫里面有什么分呢？我们在耶西的儿子里面也没有产业；以色列人哪，回你们自己的家去吧！大卫啊，照顾你自己的家吧！”于是以色列人都回自己的家去了。

米该雅说：“我看见以色列人四散在山上，好像没有牧人的羊群一样；耶和华说：‘这些人没有主人，使他们平平安安各自回家吧！’”
