And say, Thus saith the king, Put this[ fellow] in the prison, and feed him with bread of affliction and with water of affliction, until I come in peace.

and say,‘ This is what the king says: Put this fellow in prison and give him nothing but bread and water until I return safely.’”

Tell him,‘ The king says,“ Put this fellow in prison. Don’t give him anything but bread and water until I return safely.” ’ ”

and say,‘ Thus says the king,“ Put this fellow in prison and feed him meager rations of bread and water, until I come in peace.”’”

Give them this order from the king:‘ Put this man in prison, and feed him nothing but bread and water until I return safely from the battle!’”

and say,‘ This is what the king says: Put this guy in prison and feed him only a little bread and water until I come back safely.’”

and say,‘ This is what the king says:“ Put this man in prison, and feed him enough bread and water to survive until I return safely.” ’ ”

and say,‘ Thus says the king:“ Put this fellow in prison, and feed him with bread of affliction and water of affliction, until I come in peace.”’”

Then Asa was wroth with the seer, and put him in a prison house; for[ he was] in a rage with him because of this[ thing]. And Asa oppressed[ some] of the people the same time.

Then the king of Israel said, Take ye Micaiah, and carry him back to Amon the governor of the city, and to Joash the king’s son;And say, Thus saith the king, Put this[ fellow] in the prison, and feed him with bread of affliction and with water of affliction, until I return in peace.And Micaiah said, If thou certainly return in peace,[ then] hath not the LORD spoken by me. And he said, Hearken, all ye people.

For this cause I Paul, the prisoner of Jesus Christ for you Gentiles,

Thou feedest them with the bread of tears; and givest them tears to drink in great measure.

Go to now, ye that say, To day or to morrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain:Whereas ye know not what[ shall be] on the morrow. For what[ is] your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.

For I have eaten ashes like bread, and mingled my drink with weeping,

Thou shalt eat no leavened bread with it; seven days shalt thou eat unleavened bread therewith,[ even] the bread of affliction; for thou camest forth out of the land of Egypt in haste: that thou mayest remember the day when thou camest forth out of the land of Egypt all the days of thy life.

They have cut off my life in the dungeon, and cast a stone upon me.Waters flowed over mine head;[ then] I said, I am cut off.I called upon thy name, O LORD, out of the low dungeon.

The LORD hath made thee priest in the stead of Jehoiada the priest, that ye should be officers in the house of the LORD, for every man[ that is] mad, and maketh himself a prophet, that thou shouldest put him in prison, and in the stocks.

But and if that servant say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming; and shall begin to beat the menservants and maidens, and to eat and drink, and to be drunken;The lord of that servant will come in a day when he looketh not for[ him], and at an hour when he is not aware, and will cut him in sunder, and will appoint him his portion with the unbelievers.

For Herod himself had sent forth and laid hold upon John, and bound him in prison for Herodias’ sake, his brother Philip’s wife: for he had married her.For John had said unto Herod, It is not lawful for thee to have thy brother’s wife.Therefore Herodias had a quarrel against him, and would have killed him; but she could not:For Herod feared John, knowing that he was a just man and an holy, and observed him; and when he heard him, he did many things, and heard him gladly.And when a convenient day was come, that Herod on his birthday made a supper to his lords, high captains, and chief[ estates] of Galilee;And when the daughter of the said Herodias came in, and danced, and pleased Herod and them that sat with him, the king said unto the damsel, Ask of me whatsoever thou wilt, and I will give[ it] thee.And he sware unto her, Whatsoever thou shalt ask of me, I will give[ it] thee, unto the half of my kingdom.And she went forth, and said unto her mother, What shall I ask? And she said, The head of John the Baptist.And she came in straightway with haste unto the king, and asked, saying, I will that thou give me by and by in a charger the head of John the Baptist.And the king was exceeding sorry;[ yet] for his oath’s sake, and for their sakes which sat with him, he would not reject her.And immediately the king sent an executioner, and commanded his head to be brought: and he went and beheaded him in the prison,And brought his head in a charger, and gave it to the damsel: and the damsel gave it to her mother.

Added yet this above all, that he shut up John in prison.

And[ though] the Lord give you the bread of adversity, and the water of affliction, yet shall not thy teachers be removed into a corner any more, but thine eyes shall see thy teachers:

Then Pashur smote Jeremiah the prophet, and put him in the stocks that[ were] in the high gate of Benjamin, which[ was] by the house of the LORD.

Wherefore the princes were wroth with Jeremiah, and smote him, and put him in prison in the house of Jonathan the scribe: for they had made that the prison.

And laid their hands on the apostles, and put them in the common prison.

[ It is] vain for you to rise up early, to sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows:[ for] so he giveth his beloved sleep.

Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer: behold, the devil shall cast[ some] of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days: be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life.

For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.

Which thing I also did in Jerusalem: and many of the saints did I shut up in prison, having received authority from the chief priests; and when they were put to death, I gave my voice against[ them].

Then took they Jeremiah, and cast him into the dungeon of Malchiah the son of Hammelech, that[ was] in the court of the prison: and they let down Jeremiah with cords. And in the dungeon[ there was] no water, but mire: so Jeremiah sunk in the mire.

And when they had laid many stripes upon them, they cast[ them] into prison, charging the jailor to keep them safely:Who, having received such a charge, thrust them into the inner prison, and made their feet fast in the stocks.

And as he reasoned of righteousness, temperance, and judgment to come, Felix trembled, and answered, Go thy way for this time; when I have a convenient season, I will call for thee.He hoped also that money should have been given him of Paul, that he might loose him: wherefore he sent for him the oftener, and communed with him.But after two years Porcius Festus came into Felix’ room: and Felix, willing to shew the Jews a pleasure, left Paul bound.
