“ Have you noticed how Ahab has humbled himself before me? Because he has humbled himself, I will not bring this disaster in his day, but I will bring it on his house in the days of his son.”

“ Have you seen how Ahab has made himself humble in my sight? Because he has done that, I will not bring trouble on him while he lives. But I will bring it on his royal house when his son is king.”

“ Have you seen how Ahab has humbled himself before me? Because he has humbled himself before me, I will not bring the disaster in his days; but in his son’s days I will bring the disaster upon his house.”

“ Do you see how Ahab has humbled himself before me? Because he has done this, I will not do what I promised during his lifetime. It will happen to his sons; I will destroy his dynasty.”

“ Have you seen how Ahab has humbled himself before me? I will not bring the disaster during his lifetime, because he has humbled himself before me. I will bring the disaster on his house during his son’s lifetime.”

“ Have you noticed how Ahab shows remorse before me? Because he shows remorse before me, I will not bring disaster on his dynasty during his lifetime, but during the reign of his son.”

Then Jehu said to Bidkar his captain,“ Pick him up, and throw him in the plot of the field of Naboth the Jezreelite; for remember how, when you and I rode together after Ahab his father, Yahweh laid this burden on him:‘ Surely I have seen yesterday the blood of Naboth, and the blood of his sons,’ says Yahweh;‘ and I will repay you in this plot of ground,’ says Yahweh. Now therefore take and cast him onto the plot of ground, according to Yahweh’s word.”

The Lord is not slow concerning his promise, as some count slowness; but he is patient with us, not wishing that anyone should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

As soon as they hear of me they shall obey me. The foreigners shall submit themselves to me.

Tell God,“ How awesome are your deeds! Through the greatness of your power, your enemies submit themselves to you.

But you, Lord, are a merciful and gracious God, slow to anger, and abundant in loving kindness and truth.

Who is a God like you, who pardons iniquity, and passes over the disobedience of the remnant of his heritage? He doesn’t retain his anger forever, because he delights in loving kindness.

Moses and Aaron went in to Pharaoh, and said to him,“ This is what Yahweh, the God of the Hebrews, says:‘ How long will you refuse to humble yourself before me? Let my people go, that they may serve me.

So Jehu struck all that remained of Ahab’s house in Jezreel, with all his great men, his familiar friends, and his priests, until he left him no one remaining.

Then he said,“ See now to this cursed woman, and bury her; for she is a king’s daughter.”They went to bury her, but they found no more of her than the skull, the feet, and the palms of her hands.Therefore they came back, and told him. He said,“ This is Yahweh’s word, which he spoke by his servant Elijah the Tishbite, saying,‘ The dogs will eat the flesh of Jezebel on the plot of Jezreel,and the body of Jezebel will be as dung on the face of the field on Jezreel’s land, so that they won’t say,“ This is Jezebel.”’”Now Ahab had seventy sons in Samaria. Jehu wrote letters, and sent to Samaria, to the rulers of Jezreel, even the elders, and to those who brought up Ahab’s sons, saying,“ Now as soon as this letter comes to you, since your master’s sons are with you, and you have chariots and horses, a fortified city also, and armor,Select the best and fittest of your master’s sons, set him on his father’s throne, and fight for your master’s house.”But they were exceedingly afraid, and said,“ Behold, the two kings didn’t stand before him! How then shall we stand?”He who was over the household, and he who was over the city, the elders also, and those who raised the children, sent to Jehu, saying,“ We are your servants, and will do all that you ask us. We will not make any man king. You do that which is good in your eyes.”Then he wrote a letter the second time to them, saying,“ If you are on my side, and if you will listen to my voice, take the heads of the men who are your master’s sons, and come to me to Jezreel by tomorrow this time.” Now the king’s sons, being seventy persons, were with the great men of the city, who brought them up.When the letter came to them, they took the king’s sons and killed them, even seventy people, and put their heads in baskets, and sent them to him to Jezreel.

“ You, son of man, tell the house of Israel:‘ You say this,“ Our transgressions and our sins are on us, and we pine away in them. How then can we live?”’Tell them,‘“ As I live,” says the Lord Yahweh,“ I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked; but that the wicked turn from his way and live. Turn, turn from your evil ways! For why will you die, house of Israel?”’

Don’t you see what they do in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem?

Or do you despise the riches of his goodness, forbearance, and patience, not knowing that the goodness of God leads you to repentance?
