( There was never anyone like Ahab, who sold himself to do evil in the eyes of the Lord, urged on by Jezebel his wife.

There was never anyone like Ahab. He gave himself over to do what was evil in the sight of the Lord. His wife Jezebel talked him into it.

( There was none who sold himself to do what was evil in the sight of the Lord like Ahab, whom Jezebel his wife incited.

( No one else so completely sold himself to what was evil in the Lord’s sight as Ahab did under the influence of his wife Jezebel.

Still, there was no one like Ahab, who devoted himself to do what was evil in the LORD’s sight, because his wife Jezebel incited him.

There certainly was no one like Ahab who gave himself over to do evil in the sight of the Lord, because Jezebel his wife incited him.

But there was no one like Ahab who sold himself to do wickedness in the sight of the Lord, because Jezebel his wife stirred him up.

( But there was none like unto Ahab, who did sell himself to do that which was evil in the sight of Jehovah, whom Jezebel his wife stirred up.

Still, there was no one like Ahab, who devoted himself to do what was evil in the Lord’s sight, because his wife Jezebel incited him.

King Solomon fell in love with many foreign women( besides Pharaoh’s daughter), including Moabites, Ammonites, Edomites, Sidonians, and Hittites.They came from nations about which the LORD had warned the Israelites,“ You must not establish friendly relations with them! If you do, they will surely shift your allegiance to their gods.” But Solomon was irresistibly attracted to them.He had 700 royal wives and 300 concubines; his wives had a powerful influence over him.When Solomon became old, his wives shifted his allegiance to other gods; he was not wholeheartedly devoted to the LORD his God, as his father David had been.

His wife Jezebel said to him,“ You are the king of Israel! Get up, eat some food, and have a good time. I will get the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite for you.”

No king before or after repented before the LORD as he did, with his whole heart, soul, and being in accordance with the whole law of Moses.

This is what the LORD says:“ Where is your mother’s divorce certificate by which I divorced her? Or to which of my creditors did I sell you? Look, you were sold because of your sins; because of your rebellious acts I divorced your mother.

Jezebel sent a messenger to Elijah with this warning,“ May the gods judge me severely if by this time tomorrow I do not take your life as you did theirs!”

I discovered this: More bitter than death is the kind of woman who is like a hunter’s snare; her heart is like a hunter’s net and her hands are like prison chains. The man who pleases God escapes her, but the sinner is captured by her.

For Herod himself had sent men, arrested John, and bound him in prison on account of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife, because Herod had married her.For John had repeatedly told Herod,“ It is not lawful for you to have your brother’s wife.”So Herodias nursed a grudge against him and wanted to kill him. But she could notbecause Herod stood in awe of John and protected him, since he knew that John was a righteous and holy man. When Herod heard him, he was thoroughly baffled, and yet he liked to listen to John.But a suitable day came, when Herod gave a banquet on his birthday for his court officials, military commanders, and leaders of Galilee.When his daughter Herodias came in and danced, she pleased Herod and his dinner guests. The king said to the girl,“ Ask me for whatever you want and I will give it to you.”He swore to her,“ Whatever you ask I will give you, up to half my kingdom.”So she went out and said to her mother,“ What should I ask for?” Her mother said,“ The head of John the baptizer.”Immediately she hurried back to the king and made her request:“ I want the head of John the Baptist on a platter immediately.”Although it grieved the king deeply, he did not want to reject her request because of his oath and his guests.So the king sent an executioner at once to bring John’s head, and he went and beheaded John in prison.

For this is what the LORD says:“ You were sold for nothing, and you will not be redeemed for money.”

The mouth of an adulteress is like a deep pit; the one against whom the LORD is angry will fall into it.

They passed their sons and daughters through the fire, and practiced divination and omen reading. They committed themselves to doing evil in the sight of the LORD and made him angry.

But the Jews who refused to believe stirred up the Gentiles and poisoned their minds against the brothers.

( I am speaking in human terms because of the weakness of your flesh.) For just as you once presented your members as slaves to impurity and lawlessness leading to more lawlessness, so now present your members as slaves to righteousness leading to sanctification.

For we know that the law is spiritual– but I am unspiritual, sold into slavery to sin.

When Jezebel was killing the LORD’s prophets, Obadiah took one hundred prophets and hid them in two caves in two groups of fifty. He also brought them food and water.)
