The prophet said to him,“ This is what the Lord says: Because you have spared the man I said must be destroyed, now you must die in his place, and your people will die instead of his people.”

他对王说：“耶和华如此说：‘因你把我决定要消灭的人从你手中放走，所以你的命必代替他的命，你的百姓必代替他的百姓。’”

他对王说：“耶和华说，‘你放走了我决定要毁灭的人，所以你的命要抵他的命，你百姓的命要抵他百姓的命。’”

先知对王说：“耶和华这样说：因为你把我要灭绝的人从你手中放走，所以要你替他偿命。要你的人民抵偿他的人民。”

他對王說：「耶和華如此說：『因你將我定要滅絕的人放去，你的命就必代替他的命，你的民也必代替他的民。』」

他對王說：「耶和華如此說：『因你把我決定要消滅的人從你手中放走，所以你的命必代替他的命，你的百姓必代替他的百姓。』」

他對王說：「耶和華如此說：『因你把我決定要消滅的人從你手中放走，所以你的命必代替他的命，你的百姓必代替他的百姓。』」

他對王說：「耶和華說，『你放走了我決定要毀滅的人，所以你的命要抵他的命，你百姓的命要抵他百姓的命。』」

先知對王說：“耶和華這樣說：因為你把我要滅絕的人從你手中放走，所以要你替他償命。要你的人民抵償他的人民。”

他便對王說：『永恆主這麼說：「因為你將我要殺滅歸神的人從你手中放走，故此你的性命就必須代替他的性命，你的人民就必須代替他的人民。」』

彼謂王曰、耶和華云、我定當滅之人、爾由爾手釋之、故必以爾命代其命、以爾民代其民、

先知之徒曰、耶和華云、我欲殲滅者、爾反釋之、故必以爾命償其命、以爾民代其民。

先知謂王曰、主如是云、我定為必滅者、或作我所擒獲者爾反釋之去、故必以爾命代其命、以爾民代其民、

He said to the king,“ This is what the Lord says:‘ You have set free a man I had determined should die. Therefore it is your life for his life, your people for his people.’”

He told the king,“ The Lord says,‘ You have set a man free. But I had said he should be set apart to the Lord in a special way to be destroyed. So you must pay for his life with yours. You must pay for his people’s lives with the lives of your people.’ ”

And he said to him,“ Thus says the Lord,‘ Because you have let go out of your hand the man whom I had devoted to destruction, therefore your life shall be for his life, and your people for his people.’”

The prophet said to him,“ This is what the LORD says:‘ Because you released from your hand the man I had set apart for destruction, it will be your life in place of his life and your people in place of his people.’”

And the prophet said to him,“ This is what the Lord says:‘ Since you have let go from your hand the man I had designated for destruction, your life shall be forfeited in place of his life, and your people in place of his people.’ ”

Then he said to him,“ Thus says the Lord:‘ Because you have let slip out of your hand a man whom I appointed to utter destruction, therefore your life shall go for his life, and your people for his people.’”

And he said unto him, Thus saith Jehovah, Because thou hast let go out of thy hand the man whom I had devoted to destruction, therefore thy life shall go for his life, and thy people for his people.

Meanwhile, the king of Aram had issued these orders to his thirty two chariot commanders:“ Attack only the king of Israel. Don’t bother with anyone else!”So when the Aramean chariot commanders saw Jehoshaphat in his royal robes, they went after him.“ There is the king of Israel!” they shouted. But when Jehoshaphat called out,the chariot commanders realized he was not the king of Israel, and they stopped chasing him.An Aramean soldier, however, randomly shot an arrow at the Israelite troops and hit the king of Israel between the joints of his armor.“ Turn the horses and get me out of here!” Ahab groaned to the driver of his chariot.“ I’m badly wounded!”The battle raged all that day, and the king remained propped up in his chariot facing the Arameans. The blood from his wound ran down to the floor of his chariot, and as evening arrived he died.Just as the sun was setting, the cry ran through his troops:“ We’re done for! Run for your lives!”So the king died, and his body was taken to Samaria and buried there.

As the king passed by, the prophet called out to him,“ Sir, I was in the thick of battle, and suddenly a man brought me a prisoner. He said,‘ Guard this man; if for any reason he gets away, you will either die or pay a fine of seventy five pounds of silver!’

“ What’s the matter, my lord?” Hazael asked him. Elisha replied,“ I know the terrible things you will do to the people of Israel. You will burn their fortified cities, kill their young men with the sword, dash their little children to the ground, and rip open their pregnant women!”

An Aramean soldier, however, randomly shot an arrow at the Israelite troops and hit the king of Israel between the joints of his armor.“ Turn the horses and get me out of here!” Ahab groaned to the driver of the chariot.“ I’m badly wounded!”The battle raged all that day, and the king of Israel propped himself up in his chariot facing the Arameans. In the evening, just as the sun was setting, he died.

Some time later, however, King Ben hadad of Aram mustered his entire army and besieged Samaria.

Ben hadad told him,“ I will give back the towns my father took from your father, and you may establish places of trade in Damascus, as my father did in Samaria.” Then Ahab said,“ I will release you under these conditions.” So they made a new treaty, and Ben hadad was set free.

Saul and his men spared Agag’s life and kept the best of the sheep and goats, the cattle, the fat calves, and the lambs— everything, in fact, that appealed to them. They destroyed only what was worthless or of poor quality.Then the Lord said to Samuel,“ I am sorry that I ever made Saul king, for he has not been loyal to me and has refused to obey my command.” Samuel was so deeply moved when he heard this that he cried out to the Lord all night.
