Now as the king passed by, he cried out to the king and said,“ Your servant went out into the midst of the battle; and there, a man came over and brought a man to me, and said,‘ Guard this man; if by any means he is missing, your life shall be for his life, or else you shall pay a talent of silver.’

王過之、則呼曰、僕在陳時、有人執敵、轉詣我曰、爾守此人、如其失之、必以爾命代其命、或罰爾銀一他連得、

As the king passed by, the prophet called out to him,“ Your servant went into the thick of the battle, and someone came to me with a captive and said,‘ Guard this man. If he is missing, it will be your life for his life, or you must pay a talent of silver.’

The king passed by. Then the prophet called out to him. He said,“ I went into the middle of the battle. Someone came to me with a prisoner. He said,‘ Guard this man. Don’t let him get away. If he does, you will pay for his life with yours. Or you can pay 75 pounds of silver.’

And as the king passed, he cried to the king and said,“ Your servant went out into the midst of the battle, and behold, a soldier turned and brought a man to me and said,‘ Guard this man; if by any means he is missing, your life shall be for his life, or else you shall pay a talent of silver.’

As the king passed by, the prophet called out to him,“ Sir, I was in the thick of battle, and suddenly a man brought me a prisoner. He said,‘ Guard this man; if for any reason he gets away, you will either die or pay a fine of seventy five pounds of silver!’

As the king was passing by, he cried out to the king and said,“ Your servant marched out into the middle of the battle. Suddenly, a man turned aside and brought someone to me and said,‘ Guard this man! If he is ever missing, it will be your life in place of his life, or you will weigh out seventy-five pounds of silver.’

And as the king passed by, he cried out to the king and said,“ Your servant went out into the midst of the battle; and behold, a man turned aside and brought a man to me and said,‘ Guard this man; if for any reason he goes missing, then your life shall be forfeited in place of his life, or else you shall pay a talent of silver.’

And as the king passed by, he cried unto the king; and he said, Thy servant went out into the midst of the battle; and, behold, a man turned aside, and brought a man unto me, and said, Keep this man: if by any means he be missing, then shall thy life be for his life, or else thou shalt pay a talent of silver.

As the king was passing by, he cried out to the king and said,“ Your servant marched out into the middle of the battle. Suddenly, a man turned aside and brought someone to me and said,‘ Guard this man! If he is ever missing, it will be your life in place of his life, or you will weigh out 75 pounds of silver.’

And as the king passed by, he cried unto the king: and he said, Thy servant went out into the midst of the battle; and, behold, a man turned aside, and brought a man unto me, and said, Keep this man: if by any means he be missing, then shall thy life be for his life, or else thou shalt pay a talent of silver.

When the king passed by, he called out to the king,“ Your servant went out into the heat of the battle, and then a man turned aside and brought me a prisoner. He told me,‘ Guard this prisoner. If he ends up missing for any reason, you will pay with your life or with a talent of silver.’

As the king passed by, he cried to the king; and he said,“ Your servant went out into the middle of the battle; and behold, a man came over, and brought a man to me, and said,‘ Guard this man! If by any means he is missing, then your life shall be for his life, or else you shall pay a talent of silver.’

So they went in to offer sacrifices and burnt offerings. Now Jehu had appointed for himself eighty men on the outside, and had said,“ If any of the men whom I have brought into your hands escapes, whoever lets him escape, it shall be his life for the life of the other.”

Because there is wrath, beware lest He take you away with one blow; For a large ransom would not help you avoid it.

Then He began to speak to them in parables:“ A man planted a vineyard and set a hedge around it, dug a place for the wine vat and built a tower. And he leased it to vinedressers and went into a far country.Now at vintage-time he sent a servant to the vinedressers, that he might receive some of the fruit of the vineyard from the vinedressers.And they took him and beat him and sent him away empty-handed.Again he sent them another servant, and at him they threw stones, wounded him in the head, and sent him away shamefully treated.And again he sent another, and him they killed; and many others, beating some and killing some.Therefore still having one son, his beloved, he also sent him to them last, saying,‘ They will respect my son.’But those vinedressers said among themselves,‘ This is the heir. Come, let us kill him, and the inheritance will be ours.’So they took him and killed him and cast him out of the vineyard.“ Therefore what will the owner of the vineyard do? He will come and destroy the vinedressers, and give the vineyard to others.Have you not even read this Scripture:‘ The stone which the builders rejectedHas become the chief cornerstone.This was the Lord’s doing, And it is marvelous in our eyes’?”And they sought to lay hands on Him, but feared the multitude, for they knew He had spoken the parable against them. So they left Him and went away.

Then the Lord sent Nathan to David. And he came to him, and said to him:“ There were two men in one city, one rich and the other poor.The rich man had exceedingly many flocks and herds.But the poor man had nothing, except one little ewe lamb which he had bought and nourished; and it grew up together with him and with his children. It ate of his own food and drank from his own cup and lay in his bosom; and it was like a daughter to him.And a traveler came to the rich man, who refused to take from his own flock and from his own herd to prepare one for the wayfaring man who had come to him; but he took the poor man’s lamb and prepared it for the man who had come to him.”So David’s anger was greatly aroused against the man, and he said to Nathan,“ As the Lord lives, the man who has done this shall surely die!And he shall restore fourfold for the lamb, because he did this thing and because he had no pity.”Then Nathan said to David,“ You are the man! Thus says the Lord God of Israel:‘ I anointed you king over Israel, and I delivered you from the hand of Saul.

He will accept no recompense, Nor will he be appeased though you give many gifts.

If there is imposed on him a sum of money, then he shall pay to redeem his life, whatever is imposed on him.

None of them can by any means redeem his brother, Nor give to God a ransom for him—

Then the king said to her,“ What troubles you?” And she answered,“ Indeed I am a widow, my husband is dead.Now your maidservant had two sons; and the two fought with each other in the field, and there was no one to part them, but the one struck the other and killed him.And now the whole family has risen up against your maidservant, and they said,‘ Deliver him who struck his brother, that we may execute him for the life of his brother whom he killed; and we will destroy the heir also.’ So they would extinguish my ember that is left, and leave to my husband neither name nor remnant on the earth.”

Now when they told Jotham, he went and stood on top of Mount Gerizim, and lifted his voice and cried out. And he said to them:“ Listen to me, you men of Shechem, That God may listen to you!“ The trees once went forth to anoint a king over them. And they said to the olive tree,‘ Reign over us!’But the olive tree said to them,‘ Should I cease giving my oil, With which they honor God and men, And go to sway over trees?’“ Then the trees said to the fig tree,‘ You come and reign over us!’But the fig tree said to them,‘ Should I cease my sweetness and my good fruit, And go to sway over trees?’“ Then the trees said to the vine,‘ You come and reign over us!’But the vine said to them,‘ Should I cease my new wine, Which cheers both God and men, And go to sway over trees?’“ Then all the trees said to the bramble,‘ You come and reign over us!’And the bramble said to the trees,‘ If in truth you anoint me as king over you, Then come and take shelter in my shade; But if not, let fire come out of the bramble And devour the cedars of Lebanon!’“ Now therefore, if you have acted in truth and sincerity in making Abimelech king, and if you have dealt well with Jerubbaal and his house, and have done to him as he deserves—for my father fought for you, risked his life, and delivered you out of the hand of Midian;but you have risen up against my father’s house this day, and killed his seventy sons on one stone, and made Abimelech, the son of his female servant, king over the men of Shechem, because he is your brother—if then you have acted in truth and sincerity with Jerubbaal and with his house this day, then rejoice in Abimelech, and let him also rejoice in you.But if not, let fire come from Abimelech and devour the men of Shechem and Beth Millo; and let fire come from the men of Shechem and from Beth Millo and devour Abimelech!”

Then he said to him,“ Thus says the Lord:‘ Because you have let slip out of your hand a man whom I appointed to utter destruction, therefore your life shall go for his life, and your people for his people.’”

The ransom of a man’s life is his riches, But the poor does not hear rebuke.

knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver or gold, from your aimless conduct received by tradition from your fathers,but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.
