When the king passed by, he called out to the king,“ Your servant went out into the heat of the battle, and then a man turned aside and brought me a prisoner. He told me,‘ Guard this prisoner. If he ends up missing for any reason, you will pay with your life or with a talent of silver.’

亚哈王经过的时候，他向王喊道：“仆人在打仗的时候，有人押来一个俘虏，要我看管，他说如果俘虏跑掉，我就要以性命抵偿或赔偿三十四公斤银子。

王从那里经过的时候，他向王呼叫说：“你仆人出征，在战阵之中，忽然有一个人转过来，带了另一个人来见我，说：‘你看守这个人，他若是走失了，就要你替他偿命，否则你要支付三十公斤银子。’

王從那裏經過，他向王呼叫說：「僕人在陣上的時候，有人帶了一個人來，對我說：『你看守這人，若把他失了，你的性命必代替他的性命；不然，你必交出一他連得銀子來。』

亞哈王經過的時候，他向王喊道：「僕人在打仗的時候，有人押來一個俘虜，要我看管，他說如果俘虜跑掉，我就要以性命抵償或賠償三十四公斤銀子。

王從那裡經過的時候，他向王呼叫說：“你僕人出征，在戰陣之中，忽然有一個人轉過來，帶了另一個人來見我，說：‘你看守這個人，他若是走失了，就要你替他償命，否則你要支付三十公斤銀子。’

王從那裏經過，他向王哀叫說：『僕人出戰在戰陣之中、忽有人轉來，帶了一個人來交給我、說：「你看守這人；倘若遺失不見了，就要將你的性命去代替他的性命；不然，你就必須交出一擔銀子來。」

王過之、則呼曰、僕在陳時、有人執敵、轉詣我曰、爾守此人、如其失之、必以爾命代其命、或罰爾銀一他連得、

王過時、則呼曰、臣僕往戰、有人執其敵、命我守之、曰、如其不在、爾必償命、或罰金千有五百。

As the king passed by, the prophet called out to him,“ Your servant went into the thick of the battle, and someone came to me with a captive and said,‘ Guard this man. If he is missing, it will be your life for his life, or you must pay a talent of silver.’

The king passed by. Then the prophet called out to him. He said,“ I went into the middle of the battle. Someone came to me with a prisoner. He said,‘ Guard this man. Don’t let him get away. If he does, you will pay for his life with yours. Or you can pay 75 pounds of silver.’

And as the king passed, he cried to the king and said,“ Your servant went out into the midst of the battle, and behold, a soldier turned and brought a man to me and said,‘ Guard this man; if by any means he is missing, your life shall be for his life, or else you shall pay a talent of silver.’

As the king passed by, the prophet called out to him,“ Sir, I was in the thick of battle, and suddenly a man brought me a prisoner. He said,‘ Guard this man; if for any reason he gets away, you will either die or pay a fine of seventy five pounds of silver!’

As the king was passing by, he cried out to the king and said,“ Your servant marched out into the middle of the battle. Suddenly, a man turned aside and brought someone to me and said,‘ Guard this man! If he is ever missing, it will be your life in place of his life, or you will weigh out seventy-five pounds of silver.’

And as the king passed by, he cried out to the king and said,“ Your servant went out into the midst of the battle; and behold, a man turned aside and brought a man to me and said,‘ Guard this man; if for any reason he goes missing, then your life shall be forfeited in place of his life, or else you shall pay a talent of silver.’

Now as the king passed by, he cried out to the king and said,“ Your servant went out into the midst of the battle; and there, a man came over and brought a man to me, and said,‘ Guard this man; if by any means he is missing, your life shall be for his life, or else you shall pay a talent of silver.’

And as the king passed by, he cried unto the king; and he said, Thy servant went out into the midst of the battle; and, behold, a man turned aside, and brought a man unto me, and said, Keep this man: if by any means he be missing, then shall thy life be for his life, or else thou shalt pay a talent of silver.

As the king was passing by, he cried out to the king and said,“ Your servant marched out into the middle of the battle. Suddenly, a man turned aside and brought someone to me and said,‘ Guard this man! If he is ever missing, it will be your life in place of his life, or you will weigh out 75 pounds of silver.’

And as the king passed by, he cried unto the king: and he said, Thy servant went out into the midst of the battle; and, behold, a man turned aside, and brought a man unto me, and said, Keep this man: if by any means he be missing, then shall thy life be for his life, or else thou shalt pay a talent of silver.

As the king passed by, he cried to the king; and he said,“ Your servant went out into the middle of the battle; and behold, a man came over, and brought a man to me, and said,‘ Guard this man! If by any means he is missing, then your life shall be for his life, or else you shall pay a talent of silver.’

They went inside to offer sacrifices and burnt offerings. Now Jehu had stationed eighty men outside. He had told them,“ If any of the men inside get away, you will pay with your lives!”

Be careful that no one entices you with riches; do not let a large bribe turn you aside.

Then he began to speak to them in parables:“ A man planted a vineyard. He put a fence around it, dug a pit for its winepress, and built a watchtower. Then he leased it to tenant farmers and went on a journey.At harvest time he sent a slave to the tenants to collect from them his portion of the crop.But those tenants seized his slave, beat him, and sent him away empty- handed.So he sent another slave to them again. This one they struck on the head and treated outrageously.He sent another, and that one they killed. This happened to many others, some of whom were beaten, others killed.He had one left, his one dear son. Finally he sent him to them, saying,‘ They will respect my son.’But those tenants said to one another,‘ This is the heir. Come, let’s kill him and the inheritance will be ours!’So they seized him, killed him, and threw his body out of the vineyard.What then will the owner of the vineyard do? He will come and destroy those tenants and give the vineyard to others.Have you not read this scripture:‘ The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone.This is from the Lord, and it is marvelous in our eyes’?”Now they wanted to arrest him( but they feared the crowd), because they realized that he told this parable against them. So they left him and went away.

So the LORD sent Nathan to David. When he came to David, Nathan said,“ There were two men in a certain city, one rich and the other poor.The rich man had a great many flocks and herds.But the poor man had nothing except for a little lamb he had acquired. He raised it, and it grew up alongside him and his children. It used to eat his food, drink from his cup, and sleep in his arms. It was just like a daughter to him.“ When a traveler arrived at the rich man’s home, he did not want to use one of his own sheep or cattle to feed the traveler who had come to visit him. Instead, he took the poor man’s lamb and cooked it for the man who had come to visit him.”Then David became very angry at this man. He said to Nathan,“ As surely as the LORD lives, the man who did this deserves to die!Because he committed this cold-hearted crime, he must pay for the lamb four times over!”Nathan said to David,“ You are that man! This is what the LORD God of Israel says:‘ I chose you to be king over Israel and I rescued you from the hand of Saul.

He will not consider any compensation; he will not be willing, even if you multiply the compensation.

If a ransom is set for him, then he must pay the redemption for his life according to whatever amount was set for him.

Certainly a man cannot rescue his brother; he cannot pay God an adequate ransom price

The king replied to her,“ What do you want?” She answered,“ I am a widow; my husband is dead.Your servant has two sons. When the two of them got into a fight in the field, there was no one present who could intervene. One of them struck the other and killed him.Now the entire family has risen up against your servant, saying,‘ Turn over the one who struck down his brother, so that we can execute him and avenge the death of his brother whom he killed. In so doing we will also destroy the heir.’ They want to extinguish my remaining coal, leaving no one on the face of the earth to carry on the name of my husband.”

When Jotham heard the news, he went and stood on the top of Mount Gerizim. He spoke loudly to the people below,“ Listen to me, leaders of Shechem, so that God may listen to you!“ The trees were determined to go out and choose a king for themselves. They said to the olive tree,‘ Be our king!’But the olive tree said to them,‘ I am not going to stop producing my oil, which is used to honor gods and men, just to sway above the other trees!’“ So the trees said to the fig tree,‘ You come and be our king!’But the fig tree said to them,‘ I am not going to stop producing my sweet figs, my excellent fruit, just to sway above the other trees!’“ So the trees said to the grapevine,‘ You come and be our king!’But the grapevine said to them,‘ I am not going to stop producing my wine, which makes gods and men so happy, just to sway above the other trees!’“ So all the trees said to the thornbush,‘ You come and be our king!’The thornbush said to the trees,‘ If you really want to choose me as your king, then come along, find safety under my branches! Otherwise may fire blaze from the thornbush and consume the cedars of Lebanon!’“ Now, if you have shown loyalty and integrity when you made Abimelech king, if you have done right to Jerub-Baal and his family, if you have properly repaid him–my father fought for you; he risked his life and delivered you from Midian’s power.But you have attacked my father’s family today. You murdered his seventy legitimate sons on one stone and made Abimelech, the son of his female slave, king over the leaders of Shechem, just because he is your close relative.So if you have shown loyalty and integrity to Jerub-Baal and his family today, then may Abimelech bring you happiness and may you bring him happiness!But if not, may fire blaze from Abimelech and consume the leaders of Shechem and Beth Millo! May fire also blaze from the leaders of Shechem and Beth Millo and consume Abimelech!”

The prophet then said to him,“ This is what the LORD says,‘ Because you released a man I had determined should die, you will pay with your life and your people will suffer instead of his people.’”

The ransom of a person’s life is his wealth, but the poor person hears no threat.

You know that from your empty way of life inherited from your ancestors you were ransomed– not by perishable things like silver or gold,but by precious blood like that of an unblemished and spotless lamb, namely Christ.
