王从那里经过的时候，他向王呼叫说：“你仆人出征，在战阵之中，忽然有一个人转过来，带了另一个人来见我，说：‘你看守这个人，他若是走失了，就要你替他偿命，否则你要支付三十公斤银子。’

王從那裏經過，他向王哀叫說：『僕人出戰在戰陣之中、忽有人轉來，帶了一個人來交給我、說：「你看守這人；倘若遺失不見了，就要將你的性命去代替他的性命；不然，你就必須交出一擔銀子來。」

王過之、則呼曰、僕在陳時、有人執敵、轉詣我曰、爾守此人、如其失之、必以爾命代其命、或罰爾銀一他連得、

As the king passed by, the prophet called out to him,“ Your servant went into the thick of the battle, and someone came to me with a captive and said,‘ Guard this man. If he is missing, it will be your life for his life, or you must pay a talent of silver.’

The king passed by. Then the prophet called out to him. He said,“ I went into the middle of the battle. Someone came to me with a prisoner. He said,‘ Guard this man. Don’t let him get away. If he does, you will pay for his life with yours. Or you can pay 75 pounds of silver.’

As the king passed by, the prophet called out to him,“ Sir, I was in the thick of battle, and suddenly a man brought me a prisoner. He said,‘ Guard this man; if for any reason he gets away, you will either die or pay a fine of seventy five pounds of silver!’

As the king was passing by, he cried out to the king and said,“ Your servant marched out into the middle of the battle. Suddenly, a man turned aside and brought someone to me and said,‘ Guard this man! If he is ever missing, it will be your life in place of his life, or you will weigh out seventy-five pounds of silver.’

And as the king passed by, he cried out to the king and said,“ Your servant went out into the midst of the battle; and behold, a man turned aside and brought a man to me and said,‘ Guard this man; if for any reason he goes missing, then your life shall be forfeited in place of his life, or else you shall pay a talent of silver.’

Now as the king passed by, he cried out to the king and said,“ Your servant went out into the midst of the battle; and there, a man came over and brought a man to me, and said,‘ Guard this man; if by any means he is missing, your life shall be for his life, or else you shall pay a talent of silver.’

And as the king passed by, he cried unto the king; and he said, Thy servant went out into the midst of the battle; and, behold, a man turned aside, and brought a man unto me, and said, Keep this man: if by any means he be missing, then shall thy life be for his life, or else thou shalt pay a talent of silver.

As the king was passing by, he cried out to the king and said,“ Your servant marched out into the middle of the battle. Suddenly, a man turned aside and brought someone to me and said,‘ Guard this man! If he is ever missing, it will be your life in place of his life, or you will weigh out 75 pounds of silver.’

And as the king passed by, he cried unto the king: and he said, Thy servant went out into the midst of the battle; and, behold, a man turned aside, and brought a man unto me, and said, Keep this man: if by any means he be missing, then shall thy life be for his life, or else thou shalt pay a talent of silver.

When the king passed by, he called out to the king,“ Your servant went out into the heat of the battle, and then a man turned aside and brought me a prisoner. He told me,‘ Guard this prisoner. If he ends up missing for any reason, you will pay with your life or with a talent of silver.’

As the king passed by, he cried to the king; and he said,“ Your servant went out into the middle of the battle; and behold, a man came over, and brought a man to me, and said,‘ Guard this man! If by any means he is missing, then your life shall be for his life, or else you shall pay a talent of silver.’

Then they went in to offer sacrifices and burnt offerings. Now Jehu had stationed eighty men outside and said,“ The man who allows any of those whom I give into your hands to escape shall forfeit his life.”

Beware lest wrath entice you into scoffing, and let not the greatness of the ransom turn you aside.

And he began to speak to them in parables.“ A man planted a vineyard and put a fence around it and dug a pit for the winepress and built a tower, and leased it to tenants and went into another country.When the season came, he sent a servant to the tenants to get from them some of the fruit of the vineyard.And they took him and beat him and sent him away empty-handed.Again he sent to them another servant, and they struck him on the head and treated him shamefully.And he sent another, and him they killed. And so with many others: some they beat, and some they killed.He had still one other, a beloved son. Finally he sent him to them, saying,‘ They will respect my son.’But those tenants said to one another,‘ This is the heir. Come, let us kill him, and the inheritance will be ours.’And they took him and killed him and threw him out of the vineyard.What will the owner of the vineyard do? He will come and destroy the tenants and give the vineyard to others.Have you not read this Scripture:“‘ The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone;this was the Lord’s doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes’?”And they were seeking to arrest him but feared the people, for they perceived that he had told the parable against them. So they left him and went away.

And the Lord sent Nathan to David. He came to him and said to him,“ There were two men in a certain city, the one rich and the other poor.The rich man had very many flocks and herds,but the poor man had nothing but one little ewe lamb, which he had bought. And he brought it up, and it grew up with him and with his children. It used to eat of his morsel and drink from his cup and lie in his arms, and it was like a daughter to him.Now there came a traveler to the rich man, and he was unwilling to take one of his own flock or herd to prepare for the guest who had come to him, but he took the poor man’s lamb and prepared it for the man who had come to him.”Then David’s anger was greatly kindled against the man, and he said to Nathan,“ As the Lord lives, the man who has done this deserves to die,and he shall restore the lamb fourfold, because he did this thing, and because he had no pity.”Nathan said to David,“ You are the man! Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel,‘ I anointed you king over Israel, and I delivered you out of the hand of Saul.

He will accept no compensation; he will refuse though you multiply gifts.

If a ransom is imposed on him, then he shall give for the redemption of his life whatever is imposed on him.

Truly no man can ransom another, or give to God the price of his life,

And the king said to her,“ What is your trouble?” She answered,“ Alas, I am a widow; my husband is dead.And your servant had two sons, and they quarreled with one another in the field. There was no one to separate them, and one struck the other and killed him.And now the whole clan has risen against your servant, and they say,‘ Give up the man who struck his brother, that we may put him to death for the life of his brother whom he killed.’ And so they would destroy the heir also. Thus they would quench my coal that is left and leave to my husband neither name nor remnant on the face of the earth.”

When it was told to Jotham, he went and stood on top of Mount Gerizim and cried aloud and said to them,“ Listen to me, you leaders of Shechem, that God may listen to you.The trees once went out to anoint a king over them, and they said to the olive tree,‘ Reign over us.’But the olive tree said to them,‘ Shall I leave my abundance, by which gods and men are honored, and go hold sway over the trees?’And the trees said to the fig tree,‘ You come and reign over us.’But the fig tree said to them,‘ Shall I leave my sweetness and my good fruit and go hold sway over the trees?’And the trees said to the vine,‘ You come and reign over us.’But the vine said to them,‘ Shall I leave my wine that cheers God and men and go hold sway over the trees?’Then all the trees said to the bramble,‘ You come and reign over us.’And the bramble said to the trees,‘ If in good faith you are anointing me king over you, then come and take refuge in my shade, but if not, let fire come out of the bramble and devour the cedars of Lebanon.’“ Now therefore, if you acted in good faith and integrity when you made Abimelech king, and if you have dealt well with Jerubbaal and his house and have done to him as his deeds deserved—for my father fought for you and risked his life and delivered you from the hand of Midian,and you have risen up against my father’s house this day and have killed his sons, seventy men on one stone, and have made Abimelech, the son of his female servant, king over the leaders of Shechem, because he is your relative—if you then have acted in good faith and integrity with Jerubbaal and with his house this day, then rejoice in Abimelech, and let him also rejoice in you.But if not, let fire come out from Abimelech and devour the leaders of Shechem and Beth-millo; and let fire come out from the leaders of Shechem and from Beth-millo and devour Abimelech.”

And he said to him,“ Thus says the Lord,‘ Because you have let go out of your hand the man whom I had devoted to destruction, therefore your life shall be for his life, and your people for his people.’”

The ransom of a man’s life is his wealth, but a poor man hears no threat.

knowing that you were ransomed from the futile ways inherited from your forefathers, not with perishable things such as silver or gold,but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without blemish or spot.
