遂束麻於腰、繫索於首、詣以色列王曰、爾僕便哈達云、請存我命、曰、彼尚在乎、我兄弟也、

遂衣麻於身。繫索於項、至以色列王前曰、爾臣便哈達云、請宥我命、曰、我兄弟尚在乎。

遂腰束麻、項繫繩、至以色列王前、曰、王之僕便哈達云、求王存我命、曰、彼若尚存、我必以兄相待、

Wearing sackcloth around their waists and ropes around their heads, they went to the king of Israel and said,“ Your servant Ben-Hadad says:‘ Please let me live.’” The king answered,“ Is he still alive? He is my brother.”

So they wore rough clothing. They tied ropes around their heads. Then they went to the king of Israel. They told him,“ Your servant Ben- Hadad says,‘ Please let me live.’ ” The king answered,“ Is he still alive? He used to be my friend.”

So they tied sackcloth around their waists and put ropes on their heads and went to the king of Israel and said,“ Your servant Ben-hadad says,‘ Please, let me live.’” And he said,“ Does he still live? He is my brother.”

So they put on burlap and ropes, and they went to the king of Israel and begged,“ Your servant Ben hadad says,‘ Please let me live!’” The king of Israel responded,“ Is he still alive? He is my brother!”

So they dressed with sackcloth around their waists and ropes around their heads, went to the king of Israel, and said,“ Your servant Ben-hadad says,‘ Please spare my life.’” So he said,“ Is he still alive? He is my brother.”

So they put sackcloth around their waists and ropes on their heads, and came to the king of Israel and said,“ Your servant Ben hadad says,‘ Please let me live.’ ” And Ahab said,“ Is he still alive? He is my brother.”

So they wore sackcloth around their waists and put ropes around their heads, and came to the king of Israel and said,“ Your servant Ben-Hadad says,‘ Please let me live.’” And he said,“ Is he still alive? He is my brother.”

So they girded sackcloth on their loins, and put ropes on their heads, and came to the king of Israel, and said, Thy servant Ben- hadad saith, I pray thee, let me live. And he said, Is he yet alive? he is my brother.

So they put sackcloth on their bodies and ropes on their heads, and came to the king of Israel, and said,“ Your servant Ben Hadad says,‘ Please let me live.’” He said,“ Is he still alive? He is my brother.”

對他說：『便哈達這麼說：「你的銀子、金子、都是我的；連你的妻子們、你兒女中最美的也都是我的。」』以色列王回答說：『我主我王啊，就依着你的話都歸你吧，我和我所有的一切都歸於你。』使者再來說：『便哈達這麼說：「我已經差遣了人去對你說：你要把你的銀子、金子、你的妻子們和兒女們、都給我；明天大約這時候、我還要差遣我的臣僕到你那裏，搜查你的家、和你僕人的家，將你所看為可愛的東西都下手拿了來。」』

當那日子人的驕傲眼目必降低，人們的高傲必屈抑下來；惟獨永恆主被尊為崇高。因為萬軍之永恆主必有一日要攻擊一切驕矜高傲的，一切自抬自高的；

但他心高氣傲，剛愎自用，就從他的國位上黜落下來，他的尊榮就被褫奪。他被趕逐離開人類；他的心變如走獸的心；他的住處同野驢在一起；他受迫而喫草如牛；他的身體被天露滴濕，等到他承認至高上帝在人國中掌權，都隨着自己的意旨立人來管理。而你呢，伯沙撒啊，你是他的兒子，你雖知道這一切，你心仍不自己謙卑，竟對着天上的主高抬自己，叫人把他殿中的器皿拿到你面前，你和你大臣、王后、妃嬪竟用這些器皿來喝酒；你又稱頌那些金銀銅鐵、木頭石頭的神，就是那些不能看、不能聽、不能知道的；至於那手中執掌你氣息、那管理你一生行程的上帝、你卻不將尊榮歸與他。

你這住巖石的密洞中、建居所於高處的啊，你心裏說：「誰能將我拉下地呢？」你心中的傲慢氣把你欺騙了。即使你高飛如大鷹，即使你在星辰間搭窩，就是從那裏、我也必將你拉下來：永恆主發神諭說。

他便對王說：『永恆主這麼說：「因為你將我要殺滅歸神的人從你手中放走，故此你的性命就必須代替他的性命，你的人民就必須代替他的人民。」』

活活捉住亞瑪力王亞甲，把亞瑪力的眾民都用刀殺滅歸神。掃羅和眾民顧惜亞甲，也顧惜最好的羊、牛、就是那肥美的、又顧惜羊羔、以及一切美物，不情願盡行毁滅歸神；只有人所賤視鄙棄的一切羣畜、他們才殺滅歸神。永恆主的話傳與撒母耳說：『我設立掃羅為王、我後悔了，因為他退轉而不跟從我，不實行我吩咐的話。』撒母耳很着急，終夜向永恆主哀呼。撒母耳清早起來，要在早晨迎接掃羅；有人告訴撒母耳說：『掃羅到了迦密了，你看他在那裏為自己立了記念碑呢，又轉身過去、下到吉甲了。』撒母耳到了掃羅那裏，掃羅對他說：『願你蒙永恆主賜福；永恆主吩咐的話、我已經實行了。』撒母耳說：『那麼傳入我耳中的這羊叫的聲音、和我所聽見牛叫的聲音，都是怎麼回事啊？』掃羅說：『這是人從亞瑪力那裏帶來的，因為眾民顧惜最好的羊和牛，要祭獻與永恆主你的上帝；其餘的我們都盡行殺滅歸神了。』撒母耳對掃羅說：『你且慢！等我將永恆主昨夜對我說的話告訴你。』掃羅對他說：『你請說吧。』撒母耳說：『你雖曾自看為微小，你豈不是以色列族派的元首麼？永恆主膏立了你為王來管理以色列；永恆主差遣了你走一條路，說：「你去將那些犯罪者亞瑪力人盡行殺滅歸神，攻打他們，直到他們滅盡。」你為甚麼沒有聽永恆主的聽音，急於攫取掠得物，而行永恆主所看為壞的事呢？』掃羅對撒母耳說：『我實在聽了永恆主的聲音，實在行了永恆主所差遣我走的路呀；我把亞瑪力王亞甲帶了來，又將亞瑪力人盡行殺滅歸神呀。

你要發散你滿溢的怒氣，見一切驕傲的人，使他降卑；見一切驕傲的人，使他低微；把惡人踐踏於他們的本處；

將來主在錫安山和耶路撒冷了結了他一切作為的時候，他必察罰亞述王心裏自大之表現和他眼目高傲之自炫。

他把謀士擄去，衣服都給剝奪了；他使審判官變成了狂妄人。他解開了君王綁人的繩索，又用腰布捆他們的腰。

他的臣僕對他說：『看哪，我們聽說以色列家的王都是仁慈的王；讓我們腰束麻布，頭套繩索，出去投降以色列王吧；或者他會使你的性命存活着。』
