我又發現，日光之下，跑得快的未必能得獎，強大的未必能得勝，智者未必得溫飽，聰明人未必有財富，博學者未必受愛戴，因為時機和境遇左右眾人。

「你們要剛強勇敢，不要在亞述王和他的大軍面前恐懼驚慌，因為與我們同在的比與他同在的更有能力。那與他同在的只是血肉之軀，與我們同在的卻是我們的上帝耶和華，祂必幫助我們，為我們作戰。」眾人因猶大王希西迦的這番話而得到鼓舞。

那時掃羅正待在基比亞邊界米磯崙的石榴樹下，跟隨他的大約有六百人，

於是，基甸留下這三百人，把其餘人的食物和號角收集起來，讓他們回家。米甸人的軍營就在他們下面的山谷裡。

若不是他們的磐石賣掉他們，若不是耶和華拋棄他們，一人怎能趕散他們千人？二人怎能擊潰他們萬人？

「你們要走遍全營，吩咐大家預備好食物。因為三天之內，你們就要過約旦河，去佔領你們的上帝耶和華賜給你們的土地。」
