Now the king of Aram’s servants said to him,“ Their gods are gods of the hill country. That’s why they were stronger than we were. Instead, we should fight with them on the plain; then we will certainly be stronger than they are.

Meanwhile, the officials of the king of Aram advised him,“ Their gods are gods of the hills. That is why they were too strong for us. But if we fight them on the plains, surely we will be stronger than they.

During that time, the officials of the king of Aram gave him advice. They said,“ The gods of Israel are gods of the hills. That’s why they were too strong for us. But suppose we fight them on the plains. Then we’ll certainly be stronger than they are.

And the servants of the king of Syria said to him,“ Their gods are gods of the hills, and so they were stronger than we. But let us fight against them in the plain, and surely we shall be stronger than they.

After their defeat, Ben hadad’s officers said to him,“ The Israelite gods are gods of the hills; that is why they won. But we can beat them easily on the plains.

Now the servants of the king of Aram said to him,“ Their gods are gods of the mountains; for that reason they were stronger than we. But let us fight them in the plain, and we will certainly be stronger than they.

Then the servants of the king of Syria said to him,“ Their gods are gods of the hills. Therefore they were stronger than we; but if we fight against them in the plain, surely we will be stronger than they.

And the servants of the king of Syria said unto him, Their god is a god of the hills; therefore they were stronger than we: but let us fight against them in the plain, and surely we shall be stronger than they.

And the servants of the king of Syria said unto him, Their gods[ are] gods of the hills; therefore they were stronger than we; but let us fight against them in the plain, and surely we shall be stronger than they.

Now the advisers of the king of Syria said to him:“ Their God is a god of the mountains. That’s why they overpowered us. But if we fight them in the plains, we will certainly overpower them.

The servants of the king of Syria said to him,“ Their god is a god of the hills; therefore they were stronger than we. But let’s fight against them in the plain, and surely we will be stronger than they.

They also built for themselves high places, sacred pillars, and Asherah poles on every high hill and under every green tree;

Then the man of God approached and said to the king of Israel,“ This is what the LORD says:‘ Because the Arameans have said,“ The LORD is a god of the mountains and not a god of the valleys,” I will hand over all this whole huge army to you. Then you will know that I am the LORD.’”

You have done these things, and I kept silent; you thought I was just like you. But I will rebuke you and lay out the case before you.“ Understand this, you who forget God, or I will tear you apart, and there will be no one to rescue you.

“‘ Don’t you know what I and my predecessors have done to all the peoples of the lands? Have any of the national gods of the lands been able to rescue their land from my power?Who among all the gods of these nations that my predecessors completely destroyed was able to rescue his people from my power, that your God should be able to deliver you from my power?So now, don’t let Hezekiah deceive you, and don’t let him mislead you like this. Don’t believe him, for no god of any nation or kingdom has been able to rescue his people from my power or the power of my predecessors. How much less will your God rescue you from my power!’”His servants said more against the LORD God and against his servant Hezekiah.He also wrote letters to mock the LORD, the God of Israel, saying against him: Just like the national gods of the lands that did not rescue their people from my power, so Hezekiah’s God will not rescue his people from my power.Then they called out loudly in Hebrew to the people of Jerusalem, who were on the wall, to frighten and discourage them in order that he might capture the city.They spoke against the God of Jerusalem like they had spoken against the gods of the peoples of the earth, which were made by human hands.

Woe to us! Who will rescue us from these magnificent gods? These are the gods that slaughtered the Egyptians with all kinds of plagues in the wilderness.

I am the LORD. That is my name, and I will not give my glory to another or my praise to idols.

Did the gods of the nations that my predecessors destroyed rescue them— nations such as Gozan, Haran, Rezeph, and the Edenites in Telassar?

I lift my eyes toward the mountains. Where will my help come from?My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth.

For though they knew God, they did not glorify him as God or show gratitude. Instead, their thinking became worthless, and their senseless hearts were darkened.Claiming to be wise, they became foolsand exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man, birds, four-footed animals, and reptiles.
