He said,“ If they have come out for peace, take them alive; if they have come out for war, take them alive.”

Ben- Hadad said,“ They might be coming to make peace. If they are, take them alive. Or they might be coming to make war. If they are, take them alive.”

He said,“ If they have come out for peace, take them alive. Or if they have come out for war, take them alive.”

“ Take them alive,” Ben hadad commanded,“ whether they have come for peace or for war.”

So he said,“ If they have marched out in peace, take them alive, and if they have marched out for battle, take them alive.”

Then he said,“ If they have come out for peace, take them alive; or if they have come out for war, take them alive as well.”

So he said,“ If they have come out for peace, take them alive; and if they have come out for war, take them alive.”

And he said, Whether they are come out for peace, take them alive; or whether they are come out for war, take them alive.

那時，亞瑪謝派使者到耶戶的孫子，約哈斯的兒子以色列王約阿施那裏，說：「來，讓我們面對面較量吧！」以色列王約阿施派人去見猶大王亞瑪謝，說：「黎巴嫩的蒺藜派人去見黎巴嫩的香柏樹，說：『將你的女兒嫁給我的兒子。』但有一隻野獸經過黎巴嫩，把蒺藜踐踏了。你果然打敗了以東，就心高氣傲。你以此為榮，就待在自己家裏算了吧，為何要惹禍，使自己和猶大一同敗亡呢？」亞瑪謝卻不肯聽從。於是以色列王約阿施上來，在猶大的伯‧示麥與猶大王亞瑪謝面對面較量。猶大敗在以色列面前，他們逃跑，各人逃回自己的帳棚去了。

非利士人又對大衛說：「來吧！我要把你的肉給空中的飛鳥和田野的走獸。」

不要誇口說驕傲的話，也不要口出狂妄的言語，因耶和華是有知識的上帝，人的行為被他衡量。勇士的弓折斷，跌倒的人以力量束腰。

敗壞之先，人心驕傲；要得尊榮，先有謙卑。

二人就讓非利士的駐軍看見。非利士人說：「看哪，希伯來人從躲藏的洞穴裏出來了！」站崗的士兵對約拿單和拿兵器的人說：「上到這裏來，我們有一件事要告訴你們。」約拿單就對拿兵器的人說：「跟我上去，因為耶和華把他們交在以色列人手裏了。」
