He said,“ If they have come out for peace, take them alive; if they have come out for war, take them alive.”

Ben- Hadad said,“ They might be coming to make peace. If they are, take them alive. Or they might be coming to make war. If they are, take them alive.”

“ Take them alive,” Ben hadad commanded,“ whether they have come for peace or for war.”

So he said,“ If they have marched out in peace, take them alive, and if they have marched out for battle, take them alive.”

那時亞瑪謝差遣了使者去見耶戶的孫子約哈斯的兒子以色列王約阿施，說：『來；我們在戰場上見面吧。』以色列王約阿施就差遣人去見猶大王亞瑪謝，說：『利巴嫩的蒺藜差遣人去見利巴嫩的香柏樹，說：「將你的女兒給我的兒子為妻吧」；後來有一隻利巴嫩的野獸從那裏經過，就把蒺藜踐踏了。你固然是擊敗了以東人了，你卻心高氣傲。你只管自以為榮，在家裏呆着吧；又為甚麼要惹禍，使你覆亡，使你和猶大國跟你一同覆亡呢？』亞瑪謝不聽這話。於是以色列王約阿施就上陣來、他和猶大王亞瑪謝就在猶大的伯示麥彼此見面了。猶大人在以色列人面前被擊敗，各自逃回家去。

那非利士人對大衛說：『你到我這裏來吧，我就將你的肉給空中的飛鳥和田野的走獸。』

不要誇口說高傲的話，不要口出傲慢之言，因為永恆主是無所不知的上帝，人的行為都被他衡量。勇士的弓被折斷；疲弱的人以氣力束腰。

人先心驕傲，然後遭破毁；要得尊榮、先要謙卑。

二人就讓非利士人的駐防兵看見；非利士人說：『看哪，有希伯來人從他們所藏的窟窿洞裏出來呢。』駐防營的人應時對約拿單和拿軍器的護兵喊着說：『你們上我們這裏來吧！有一件事我們要給你們知道。』約拿單就對拿軍器的護兵說：『你跟着我上去，因為永恆主將他們交在以色列人手裏了。』
