Ahab asked,“ How will he do it?” And the prophet replied,“ This is what the Lord says: The troops of the provincial commanders will do it.”“ Should we attack first?” Ahab asked.“ Yes,” the prophet answered.

“ But who will do this?” asked Ahab. The prophet replied,“ This is what the Lord says:‘ The junior officers under the provincial commanders will do it.’”“ And who will start the battle?” he asked. The prophet answered,“ You will.”

“ But who will do it?” Ahab asked. The prophet answered,“ The Lord says,‘ The junior officers who are under the area commanders will do it.’ ”“ And who will start the battle?” Ahab asked. The prophet answered,“ You will.”

And Ahab said,“ By whom?” He said,“ Thus says the Lord, By the servants of the governors of the districts.” Then he said,“ Who shall begin the battle?” He answered,“ You.”

Ahab asked,“ By whom will this be accomplished?” He answered,“ This is what the LORD says,‘ By the servants of the district governors.’” Ahab asked,“ Who will launch the attack?” He answered,“ You will.”

Ahab said,“ By whom?” He said,“ Yahweh says,‘ By the young men of the princes of the provinces.’” Then he said,“ Who shall begin the battle?” He answered,“ You.”

So David triumphed over the Philistine with only a sling and a stone, for he had no sword.

Instead, God chose things the world considers foolish in order to shame those who think they are wise. And he chose things that are powerless to shame those who are powerful.God chose things despised by the world, things counted as nothing at all, and used them to bring to nothing what the world considers important.As a result, no one can ever boast in the presence of God.

He divided the 300 men into three groups and gave each man a ram’s horn and a clay jar with a torch in it.Then he said to them,“ Keep your eyes on me. When I come to the edge of the camp, do just as I do.As soon as I and those with me blow the rams’ horns, blow your horns, too, all around the entire camp, and shout,‘ For the Lord and for Gideon!’”It was just after midnight, after the changing of the guard, when Gideon and the 100 men with him reached the edge of the Midianite camp. Suddenly, they blew the rams’ horns and broke their clay jars.Then all three groups blew their horns and broke their jars. They held the blazing torches in their left hands and the horns in their right hands, and they all shouted,“ A sword for the Lord and for Gideon!”

Finally the seventh time, his servant told him,“ I saw a little cloud about the size of a man’s hand rising from the sea.” Then Elijah shouted,“ Hurry to Ahab and tell him,‘ Climb into your chariot and go back home. If you don’t hurry, the rain will stop you!’”

When Abram heard that his nephew Lot had been captured, he mobilized the 318 trained men who had been born into his household. Then he pursued Kedorlaomer’s army until he caught up with them at Dan.There he divided his men and attacked during the night. Kedorlaomer’s army fled, but Abram chased them as far as Hobah, north of Damascus.Abram recovered all the goods that had been taken, and he brought back his nephew Lot with his possessions and all the women and other captives.
