Asa responded by removing all the silver and gold that was left in the treasuries of the Temple of the Lord and the royal palace. He sent it with some of his officials to Ben hadad son of Tabrimmon, son of Hezion, the king of Aram, who was ruling in Damascus, along with this message:

Ben hadad agreed to King Asa’s request and sent the commanders of his army to attack the towns of Israel. They conquered the towns of Ijon, Dan, Abel beth maacah, and all Kinnereth, and all the land of Naphtali.

Meanwhile, the king of Aram had issued these orders to his thirty two chariot commanders:“ Attack only the king of Israel. Don’t bother with anyone else!”

He went to him and said,“ Your servant Ben hadad, the king of Aram, has sent me to ask,‘ Will I recover from this illness?’”And Elisha replied,“ Go and tell him,‘ You will surely recover.’ But actually the Lord has shown me that he will surely die!”

Asa responded by removing the silver and gold from the treasuries of the Temple of the Lord and the royal palace. See, I am sending you silver and gold. I have neither food from the threshing floor nor wine from the press to give you.”But then the king asked,“ What is the matter?” She replied,“ This woman said to me:‘ Come on, let’s eat your son today, then we will eat my son tomorrow.’So we cooked my son and ate him. Then the next day I said to her,‘ Kill your son so we can eat him,’ but she has hidden her son.”

So I will send down fire on King Hazael’s palace, and the fortresses of King Ben hadad will be destroyed.

By your messengers you have defied the Lord. You have said,‘ With my many chariots I have conquered the highest mountains— yes, the remotest peaks of Lebanon. I have cut down its tallest cedars and its finest cypress trees. I have reached its farthest heights and explored its deepest forests.
