在你这里有巴户琳的便雅悯人，基拉的儿子示每；我往玛哈念去的那日，他用狠毒的言语咒骂我，后来却下约旦河迎接我，我就指着耶和华向他起誓说：‘我必不用刀杀你。’

看哪，在你这里有来自巴户琳的便雅悯人，基拉的儿子示每。我到玛哈念去的那日，他用狠毒的言语咒骂我。后来他却下约旦河迎接我，我就指着耶和华向他起誓说：‘我必不用刀杀死你。’

我往瑪哈念時、巴戶琳人、便雅憫族、基拉子示每、以厲詞詛我、厥後迎我於約但、我指耶和華而誓、必不戮之以刃、

我往馬哈念時、巴戶林地便雅憫族其喇子示每詛我以厲詞、逮我歸約但之時、彼來晉接、故我指耶和華而誓、必不戮之以刃。

在爾所有巴戶琳人便雅憫支派基拉子示每、我往瑪哈念時、彼以很毒之言咒詛我、後下至約但迎我、我向彼指主而誓、必不以刃殺之、

“ And remember, you have with you Shimei son of Gera, the Benjamite from Bahurim, who called down bitter curses on me the day I went to Mahanaim. When he came down to meet me at the Jordan, I swore to him by the Lord:‘ I will not put you to death by the sword.’

“ Don’t forget that Shimei, the son of Gera, is still around. He’s from Bahurim in the territory of Benjamin. Shimei cursed me bitterly. He did it on the day I went to Mahanaim. Later, he came down to welcome me at the Jordan River. At that time I made a promise in the name of the Lord. I promised Shimei,‘ I won’t put you to death with my sword.’

And there is also with you Shimei the son of Gera, the Benjaminite from Bahurim, who cursed me with a grievous curse on the day when I went to Mahanaim. But when he came down to meet me at the Jordan, I swore to him by the Lord, saying,‘ I will not put you to death with the sword.’

“ And remember Shimei son of Gera, the man from Bahurim in Benjamin. He cursed me with a terrible curse as I was fleeing to Mahanaim. When he came down to meet me at the Jordan River, I swore by the Lord that I would not kill him.

“ Keep an eye on Shimei son of Gera, the Benjaminite from Bahurim who is with you. He uttered malicious curses against me the day I went to Mahanaim. But he came down to meet me at the Jordan River, and I swore to him by the LORD,‘ I will never kill you with the sword.’

And behold, you have with you Shimei the son of Gera the Benjaminite, of Bahurim; now it was he who cursed me with a painful curse on the day I went to Mahanaim. But when he came down to meet me at the Jordan, I swore to him by the Lord, saying,‘ I will not put you to death with the sword.’

“ And see, you have with you Shimei the son of Gera, a Benjamite from Bahurim, who cursed me with a malicious curse in the day when I went to Mahanaim. But he came down to meet me at the Jordan, and I swore to him by the Lord, saying,‘ I will not put you to death with the sword.’

And, behold, there is with thee Shimei the son of Gera, the Benjamite, of Bahurim, who cursed me with a grievous curse in the day when I went to Mahanaim; but he came down to meet me at the Jordan, and I sware to him by Jehovah, saying, I will not put thee to death with the sword.

“ Keep an eye on Shimei son of Gera, the Benjaminite from Bahurim who is with you. He uttered malicious curses against me the day I went to Mahanaim. But he came down to meet me at the Jordan River, and I swore to him by the Lord:‘ I will never kill you with the sword.’

And, behold,[ thou hast] with thee Shimei the son of Gera, a Benjamite of Bahurim, which cursed me with a grievous curse in the day when I went to Mahanaim: but he came down to meet me at Jordan, and I sware to him by the LORD, saying, I will not put thee to death with the sword.

“ Note well, you still have to contend with Shimei son of Gera, the Benjaminite from Bahurim, who tried to call down upon me a horrible judgment when I went to Mahanaim. He came down and met me at the Jordan, and I solemnly promised him by the LORD,‘ I will not strike you down with the sword.’

“ Behold, there is with you Shimei the son of Gera, the Benjamite, of Bahurim, who cursed me with a grievous curse in the day when I went to Mahanaim; but he came down to meet me at the Jordan, and I swore to him by Yahweh, saying,‘ I will not put you to death with the sword.’

大衛王來到巴戶琳時，掃羅家族基拉的兒子示每出來對著大衛破口大罵，還朝大衛和他的臣僕扔石頭，無視大衛身邊的眾多部下和勇士。示每罵大衛：「滾吧！滾吧！你這個殺人兇手，你這個敗類！你殺掃羅的家人，奪其王位，耶和華報應了你，把江山交給了你兒子押沙龍。你這殺人兇手是自食惡果！」

來自巴戶琳的便雅憫人基拉的兒子示每也急忙跟著猶大人趕來迎接大衛王，有一千便雅憫人跟示每一起去迎接大衛王。掃羅的僕人洗巴帶著十五個兒子和二十個僕人也趕到約旦河。他們渡到河對面幫助王的家眷過河，為王效勞。王正要過河的時候，基拉的兒子示每就俯伏在他面前，說：「求我主饒恕僕人的罪過！僕人在我主我王離開耶路撒冷時所犯的罪，求我王不要記在心上。僕人自知有罪，所以今天我是整個約瑟家族中第一個迎接我主我王的人。」洗魯雅的兒子亞比篩說：「示每曾經咒罵耶和華所膏立的君王，難道不應該處死他嗎？」大衛說：「洗魯雅的兒子，你為何這樣說話？你今天是在跟我作對。今天在以色列怎麼可以處死人呢？難道我不知道今天我是以色列的王嗎？」於是大衛起誓不殺示每。

如果你本著誠實、正直、公義，憑永活的耶和華起誓，你必成為萬國的祝福，得到他們的尊敬。」

王又派人將示每召來，對他說：「你要在耶路撒冷建屋居住，不得出城去其他地方。你哪天越過汲淪溪，哪天必死無疑，你的死是咎由自取。」示每說：「好，僕人必照我主我王說的做。」示每就一直住在耶路撒冷。過了三年，示每的兩個僕人逃到迦特王瑪迦的兒子亞吉那裡。示每知道後，就備上驢到迦特的亞吉那裡找他的僕人，並把他們帶了回來。所羅門聽說示每從耶路撒冷前往迦特，已經返回，就派人召來示每，問道：「我不是叫你憑耶和華起誓不離開耶路撒冷嗎？我警告過你，你哪天離開這裡，哪天必死無疑。當時你也同意。現在你為何不守你向耶和華起的誓，不遵行我的命令？」王又說：「你以前如何惡待我父大衛，你自己心裡明白，現在耶和華要追究你的罪行了。但所羅門王必蒙祝福，大衛的王位在耶和華面前必永遠穩固。」於是，王命令耶何耶大的兒子比拿雅殺死示每。這樣所羅門的江山得以穩固。
