“ But show kindness to the sons of Barzillai of Gilead and let them be among those who eat at your table. They stood by me when I fled from your brother Absalom.

大衛到了瑪哈念，亞捫族的拉巴人拿轄的兒子朔比，羅‧底巴人亞米利的兒子瑪吉，來自羅基琳的基列人巴西萊，帶着被褥、盆、瓦器，還有小麥、大麥、麥麵、烤熟的穀穗、豆子、紅豆、炒豆、蜂蜜、奶油、綿羊、奶餅，供給大衛和跟隨他的人吃，因為他們想：「百姓在曠野中，必定又飢渴又疲乏。」

你、你的眾子和僕人要為你主人的兒子耕種田地，把所收穫的拿來供他食用；你主人的兒子米非波設卻要常與我同席吃飯。」洗巴有十五個兒子和二十個僕人。

報信的人來到大衛那裏，說：「以色列人的心都歸向押沙龍了！」大衛就對耶路撒冷所有跟隨他的臣僕說：「起來，我們逃吧！否則，我們來不及逃避押沙龍。要快點離開，免得他很快追上我們，加害於我們，用刀擊殺城裏的人。」王的臣僕對王說：「我主我王所決定的一切，看哪，僕人都願遵行。」

看哪，我站在門外叩門，若有聽見我聲音而開門的，我要進到他那裏去，我與他，他與我一起吃飯。得勝的，我要賜他在我寶座上與我同坐，就如我得了勝，在我父的寶座上與他同坐一般。

你的朋友和父親的朋友，你都不可離棄。你遭難時，不要上兄弟的家去；相近的鄰舍強如遠方的兄弟。

基列人巴西萊從羅基琳下來，要護送王過約旦河，就跟王一同過約旦河。巴西萊年紀老邁，已經八十歲了。王住在瑪哈念的時候，他拿食物來供給王，因他是個大富翁。王對巴西萊說：「你與我一同渡過去，我要在耶路撒冷我的身邊奉養你。」巴西萊對王說：「我還能活多少年日，可以與王一同上耶路撒冷呢？今日我已八十歲了，還能辨別美醜嗎？僕人還能嘗出飲食的滋味嗎？還能聽男女歌唱的聲音嗎？僕人何必拖累我主我王呢？僕人護送王過約旦河只是一件小事，王何必用這樣的賞賜來報答我呢？請讓我回去，死在我本城，葬在我父母的墓旁。看哪，這裏有金罕作王的僕人，讓他同我主我王過去，你看怎樣好，就怎樣對待他吧。」王說：「金罕可以與我一同過去，我必照你看為好的待他。你要我做的，我都會為你做。」於是眾百姓過了約旦河，王也過去了。王親吻巴西萊，為他祝福，巴西萊就回自己的地方去了。王渡過去，到了吉甲，金罕也跟他過去。猶大眾百姓和以色列百姓的一半也都送王過去。

主人來了，看見僕人警醒，那些僕人就有福了。我實在告訴你們，主人會叫他們坐席，自己束上腰帶，前來伺候他們。

「我在試煉之中，常和我同在的就是你們。我把國賜給你們，正如我父賜給我一樣，使你們在我的國裏坐在我的席上吃喝，並且坐在寶座上審判以色列十二個支派。」

因為我祖全家的人，在我主我王面前不過是該死的人，王卻使僕人列在王的席上吃飯的人當中，我現在還有甚麼權利能向王請求呢？」
