“ But show kindness to the sons of Barzillai of Gilead and let them be among those who eat at your table. They stood by me when I fled from your brother Absalom.

“ But be kind to the sons of Barzillai from Gilead. Provide what they need. They were faithful to me when I had to run away from your brother Absalom.

But deal loyally with the sons of Barzillai the Gileadite, and let them be among those who eat at your table, for with such loyalty they met me when I fled from Absalom your brother.

“ Be kind to the sons of Barzillai of Gilead. Make them permanent guests at your table, for they took care of me when I fled from your brother Absalom.

“ Show kindness to the sons of Barzillai the Gileadite and let them be among those who eat at your table because they supported me when I fled from your brother Absalom.

However, show kindness to the sons of Barzillai the Gileadite, and let them be among those who eat at your table; for they assisted me when I fled from Absalom your brother.

And David said unto him, Fear not: for I will surely shew thee kindness for Jonathan thy father’s sake, and will restore thee all the land of Saul thy father; and thou shalt eat bread at my table continually.

And it came to pass, when David was come to Mahanaim, that Shobi the son of Nahash of Rabbah of the children of Ammon, and Machir the son of Ammiel of Lodebar, and Barzillai the Gileadite of Rogelim,Brought beds, and basons, and earthen vessels, and wheat, and barley, and flour, and parched[ corn], and beans, and lentiles, and parched[ pulse],And honey, and butter, and sheep, and cheese of kine, for David, and for the people that[ were] with him, to eat: for they said, The people[ is] hungry, and weary, and thirsty, in the wilderness.

Thou therefore, and thy sons, and thy servants, shall till the land for him, and thou shalt bring in[ the fruits], that thy master’s son may have food to eat: but Mephibosheth thy master’s son shall eat bread alway at my table. Now Ziba had fifteen sons and twenty servants.

And there came a messenger to David, saying, The hearts of the men of Israel are after Absalom.And David said unto all his servants that[ were] with him at Jerusalem, Arise, and let us flee; for we shall not[ else] escape from Absalom: make speed to depart, lest he overtake us suddenly, and bring evil upon us, and smite the city with the edge of the sword.And the king’s servants said unto the king, Behold, thy servants[ are ready to do] whatsoever my lord the king shall appoint.

Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne.

Thine own friend, and thy father’s friend, forsake not; neither go into thy brother’s house in the day of thy calamity:[ for] better[ is] a neighbour[ that is] near than a brother far off.

And Barzillai the Gileadite came down from Rogelim, and went over Jordan with the king, to conduct him over Jordan.Now Barzillai was a very aged man,[ even] fourscore years old: and he had provided the king of sustenance while he lay at Mahanaim; for he[ was] a very great man.And the king said unto Barzillai, Come thou over with me, and I will feed thee with me in Jerusalem.And Barzillai said unto the king, How long have I to live, that I should go up with the king unto Jerusalem?I[ am] this day fourscore years old:[ and] can I discern between good and evil? can thy servant taste what I eat or what I drink? can I hear any more the voice of singing men and singing women? wherefore then should thy servant be yet a burden unto my lord the king?Thy servant will go a little way over Jordan with the king: and why should the king recompense it me with such a reward?Let thy servant, I pray thee, turn back again, that I may die in mine own city,[ and be buried] by the grave of my father and of my mother. But behold thy servant Chimham; let him go over with my lord the king; and do to him what shall seem good unto thee.And the king answered, Chimham shall go over with me, and I will do to him that which shall seem good unto thee: and whatsoever thou shalt require of me,[ that] will I do for thee.And all the people went over Jordan. And when the king was come over, the king kissed Barzillai, and blessed him; and he returned unto his own place.Then the king went on to Gilgal, and Chimham went on with him: and all the people of Judah conducted the king, and also half the people of Israel.

Blessed[ are] those servants, whom the lord when he cometh shall find watching: verily I say unto you, that he shall gird himself, and make them to sit down to meat, and will come forth and serve them.

Ye are they which have continued with me in my temptations.And I appoint unto you a kingdom, as my Father hath appointed unto me;That ye may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom, and sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

For all[ of] my father’s house were but dead men before my lord the king: yet didst thou set thy servant among them that did eat at thine own table. What right therefore have I yet to cry any more unto the king?
