Why then did you not keep your oath to the Lord and obey the command I gave you?”

So why didn’t you keep your promise to the Lord? Why didn’t you obey the command I gave you?”

Why then have you not kept your oath to the Lord and the commandment with which I commanded you?”

Then why haven’t you kept your oath to the Lord and obeyed my command?”

Therefore it is necessary to be in subjection, not only because of the wrath of the authorities but also because of your conscience.

So the king summoned the Gibeonites and spoke with them.( Now the Gibeonites were not descendants of Israel; they were a remnant of the Amorites. The Israelites had made a promise to them, but Saul tried to kill them because of his zeal for the people of Israel and Judah.)

Obey the king’s command, because you took an oath before God to be loyal to him.

In Judah God moved the people to unite and carry out the edict the king and the officers had issued at the LORD’s command.

He despised the oath by breaking the covenant. Take note– he gave his promise and did all these things– he will not escape!“‘ Therefore this is what the sovereign LORD says: As surely as I live, I will certainly repay him for despising my oath and breaking my covenant!
