Now Adonijah, the son of Haggith, went to Bathsheba, Solomon’s mother. Bathsheba asked him,“ Do you come peacefully?” He answered,“ Yes, peacefully.”

Adonijah was the son of David’s wife Haggith. He went to Bathsheba. She was Solomon’s mother. She asked Adonijah,“ Have you come in peace?” He answered,“ Yes. I’ve come in peace.”

Then Adonijah the son of Haggith came to Bathsheba the mother of Solomon. And she said,“ Do you come peacefully?” He said,“ Peacefully.”

One day Adonijah, whose mother was Haggith, came to see Bathsheba, Solomon’s mother.“ Have you come with peaceful intentions?” she asked him.“ Yes,” he said,“ I come in peace.

Now Adonijah the son of Haggith came to Bathsheba the mother of Solomon. So she said,“ Do you come peacefully?” And he said,“ Peacefully.”

Now Adonijah the son of Haggith came to Bathsheba the mother of Solomon. So she said,“ Do you come peaceably?” And he said,“ Peaceably.”

Then Adonijah the son of Haggith came to Bath- sheba the mother of Solomon. And she said, Comest thou peaceably? And he said, Peaceably.

Now Adonijah son of Haggith came to Bathsheba, Solomon’s mother. She asked,“ Do you come peacefully?”“ Peacefully,” he replied,

And Adonijah the son of Haggith came to Bathsheba the mother of Solomon. And she said, Comest thou peaceably? And he said, Peaceably.

Haggith’s son Adonijah visited Bathsheba, Solomon’s mother. She asked,“ Do you come in peace?” He answered,“ Yes.”

Then Adonijah the son of Haggith came to Bathsheba the mother of Solomon. She said,“ Do you come peaceably?” He said,“ Peaceably.

David went out to meet them and said to them,“ If you have come in peace to help me, my heart will be united with you, but if you have come to betray me to my enemies even though my hands have done no wrong, may the God of our ancestors look on it and judge.”Then the Spirit enveloped Amasai, chief of the Thirty, and he said: We are yours, David, we are with you, son of Jesse! Peace, peace to you, and peace to him who helps you, for your God helps you. So David received them and made them leaders of his troops.

Adonijah son of Haggith kept exalting himself, saying,“ I will be king!” He prepared chariots, cavalry, and fifty men to run ahead of him.But his father had never once infuriated him by asking,“ Why did you do that?” In addition, he was quite handsome and was born after Absalom.He conspired with Joab son of Zeruiah and with the priest Abiathar. They supported Adonijah,but the priest Zadok, Benaiah son of Jehoiada, the prophet Nathan, Shimei, Rei, and David’s royal guard did not side with Adonijah.Adonijah sacrificed sheep, goats, cattle, and fattened cattle near the stone of Zoheleth, which is next to En-rogel. He invited all his royal brothers and all the men of Judah, the servants of the king,but he did not invite the prophet Nathan, Benaiah, the royal guard, or his brother Solomon.

Adonijah was afraid of Solomon, so he got up and went to take hold of the horns of the altar.It was reported to Solomon,“ Look, Adonijah fears King Solomon, and he has taken hold of the horns of the altar, saying,‘ Let King Solomon first swear to me that he will not kill his servant with the sword.’”Then Solomon said,“ If he is a man of character, not a single hair of his will fall to the ground, but if evil is found in him, he dies.”So King Solomon sent for him, and they took him down from the altar. He came and paid homage to King Solomon, and Solomon said to him,“ Go to your home.”

So a horseman went to meet Jehu and said,“ This is what the king asks:‘ Do you come in peace?’” Jehu replied,“ What do you have to do with peace? Fall in behind me.” The watchman reported,“ The messenger reached them but hasn’t started back.”So he sent out a second horseman, who went to them and said,“ This is what the king asks:‘ Do you come in peace?’” Jehu answered,“ What do you have to do with peace? Fall in behind me.”Again the watchman reported,“ He reached them but hasn’t started back. Also, the driving is like that of Jehu son of Nimshi— he drives like a madman.”“ Get the chariot ready!” Joram shouted, and they got it ready. Then King Joram of Israel and King Ahaziah of Judah set out, each in his own chariot, and met Jehu at the plot of land of Naboth the Jezreelite.When Joram saw Jehu he asked,“ Do you come in peace, Jehu?” He answered,“ What peace can there be as long as there is so much prostitution and sorcery from your mother Jezebel?”

Samuel did what the LORD directed and went to Bethlehem. When the elders of the town met him, they trembled and asked,“ Do you come in peace?”“ In peace,” he replied.“ I’ve come to sacrifice to the LORD. Consecrate yourselves and come with me to the sacrifice.” Then he consecrated Jesse and his sons and invited them to the sacrifice.

Whatever house you enter, first say,‘ Peace to this household.’If a person of peace is there, your peace will rest on him; but if not, it will return to you.
