太阳出来的时候，神安排炎热的东风，太阳曝晒约拿的头，使他发昏，他就为自己求死，说：“我死了比活着更好！”

耶和华啊，现在求你取走我的性命吧！因为我死了比活着更好。”

愿我出生的那日受诅咒！愿我母亲生我的那天不蒙福！报信给我父亲说“你得了儿子”，使我父亲甚欢喜的，愿那人受诅咒。愿那人像耶和华所倾覆而不怜惜的城镇；愿他早晨听见哀声，中午听见呐喊；因他没有在我未出胎就把我杀了，以致我母亲成为我的坟墓，她却一直怀着胎。我为何出胎见劳碌愁苦，在羞愧中度尽我的年日呢？

以利亚害怕，就起来逃命，到了犹大的别是巴，把仆人留在那里。

去追神人，遇见神人坐在橡树底下，就对他说：“你是不是从犹大来的神人？”他说：“是我。”

皮袋的水用完了，夏甲就把孩子放在一棵小树下，自己走开约有一箭之远，相对而坐，说：“我不忍心看见孩子死”。她就坐在对面，放声大哭。

“遭受患难的人为何有光赐给他呢？心中愁苦的人为何有生命赐给他呢？他们等死，却不得死；求死，胜于求隐藏的珍宝。他们寻见坟墓，就欢喜快乐，极其高兴。

你能胜过挪亚们吗？它坐落在众河之间，周围有水，海作它的城郭，海作它的城墙。

你们看一看那天上的飞鸟，也不种也不收，也不在仓里存粮，你们的天父尚且养活它们。你们不比飞鸟贵重得多吗？

那又怎么样呢？我们比他们强吗？绝不是！因我们已经指证：犹太人和希腊人都在罪恶之下。
