while he himself went a day’s journey into the wilderness. He came to a broom bush, sat down under it and prayed that he might die.“ I have had enough, Lord,” he said.“ Take my life; I am no better than my ancestors.”

Then he traveled for one day into the desert. He came to a small bush. He sat down under it. He prayed that he would die.“ Lord, I’ve had enough,” he said.“ Take my life. I’m no better than my people of long ago.”

But he himself went a day’s journey into the wilderness and came and sat down under a broom tree. And he asked that he might die, saying,“ It is enough; now, O Lord, take away my life, for I am no better than my fathers.”

Then he went on alone into the wilderness, traveling all day. He sat down under a solitary broom tree and prayed that he might die.“ I have had enough, Lord,” he said.“ Take my life, for I am no better than my ancestors who have already died.”

太陽出來的時候，上帝颳起燥熱的東風，烈日把約拿曬得發昏，他就再次求死說：「我死了比活著還好！」

耶和華啊，求你收回我的性命吧，我死了比活著還好！」

願我出生的那天受咒詛！願我母親生我的那天不蒙祝福！願那告訴我父親喜得貴子、使他歡喜的人受咒詛！願那人像被耶和華無情毀滅的城！願他早晨聽見哀鳴，中午聽見戰爭的呐喊，因為他沒有把我殺死在母腹中，沒有使母腹成為我的墳墓，讓我永遠留在裡面。為什麼我要從母胎出來，經歷患難和痛苦，在羞辱中度過一生呢？

雅各井就在那個地方。耶穌走路疲乏，坐在井旁休息。那時是中午時分，

你們去甲尼看看，然後從那裡到哈瑪大城，再到非利士人的迦特看看。你們比這些國家更好嗎？他們的領土不比你們的更廣闊嗎？

因為對我來說，活著是為了基督，死了也有益處。如果活在世上，我可以做工，多結果子。我真不知道該怎麼選擇！我處在兩難之間。我情願離開世界，與基督在一起，那實在是再好不過了。可是為了你們，我應該活在世上。

他們邊走邊談，忽然有火馬拉的火車把他們二人隔開，以利亞乘著旋風升上了天。

以利亞很害怕，連忙逃命，來到猶大的別示巴。他讓僕人留在那裡，

皮袋的水喝光了，夏甲把兒子留在一叢灌木下，自己走到離孩子約一箭之遠的地方，對著孩子坐下，說：「我不忍心看著他死啊！」夏甲坐在那裡放聲大哭起來。

「為何賜光給受苦的人，賜生命給心靈痛苦的人？他們等候死亡卻等不到，他們求死勝於求寶藏。他們歸入墳墓時非常快樂，欣喜若狂。

你能強過底比斯嗎？底比斯位於尼羅河上，四面環水，水是她的屏障，又是她的城牆。

「你們看天上的飛鳥，牠們不種，不收，也不在倉裡積存糧食，你們的天父尚且養活牠們，難道你們還不如飛鳥貴重嗎？
