彼得却在众人面前否认说：“我不知道你在说什么。”他出去到门口，另有一个女仆看见他，对那里的人说：“这个人与拿撒勒人耶稣是一伙的。”彼得又起誓否认说：“我不认识那个人！”过了一会儿，旁边站着的人过来对彼得说：“你真的也是与他们一伙的，因为连你的口音也把你暴露了。”彼得就开始赌咒并起誓说：“我不认识那个人！”立时，鸡就叫了。
