So Jezebel sent this message to Elijah:“ May the gods strike me and even kill me if by this time tomorrow I have not killed you just as you killed them.”

So Jezebel sent a messenger to Elijah to say,“ May the gods deal with me, be it ever so severely, if by this time tomorrow I do not make your life like that of one of them.”

So Jezebel sent a message to Elijah. She said,“ You can be sure that I will kill you, just as I killed the other prophets. I’ll do it by this time tomorrow. If I don’t, may the gods punish me greatly.”

Then Jezebel sent a messenger unto Elijah, saying, So let the gods do[ to me], and more also, if I make not thy life as the life of one of them by tomorrow about this time.

Jezebel sent a messenger to Elijah with this warning,“ May the gods judge me severely if by this time tomorrow I do not take your life as you did theirs!”

Then Jezebel sent a messenger to Elijah, saying,“ So let the gods do to me, and more also, if I don’t make your life as the life of one of them by tomorrow about this time!”

Then Ben hadad sent this message to Ahab:“ May the gods strike me and even kill me if there remains enough dust from Samaria to provide even a handful for each of my soldiers.”

“ May God strike me and even kill me if I don’t separate Elisha’s head from his shoulders this very day,” the king vowed.

They have completely destroyed everyone who stood in their way! Why should you be any different?Have the gods of other nations rescued them— such nations as Gozan, Haran, Rezeph, and the people of Eden who were in Tel assar? My predecessors destroyed them all!

“ The enemy boasted,‘ I will chase them and catch up with them. I will plunder them and consume them. I will flash my sword; my powerful hand will destroy them.’

Don’t brag about tomorrow, since you don’t know what the day will bring.

Joab had not joined Absalom’s earlier rebellion, but he had joined Adonijah’s rebellion. So when Joab heard about Adonijah’s death, he ran to the sacred tent of the Lord and grabbed on to the horns of the altar.
