“我们的神哪，现在求你垂听你仆人的祷告和恳求；主啊，为你自己的缘故，求你使你的脸照亮你荒凉的圣所！我的神哪，求你侧耳听，求你垂听！求你睁开眼睛观看我们的荒凉和这被称为你名下的城，因为我们在你面前呈上的恳求不是因着我们的义，而是因着你丰盛的怜悯。主啊，求你垂听！主啊，求你赦免！主啊，求你留心听并且行动！我的神哪，为你自己的缘故，求你不要迟延，因为你的城和你的子民都是被称为你名下的。”

我告诉你们：即使不因着是朋友而起来拿给他，还是会因着他毫无羞愧地求，就起来把他所要的拿给他。

看哪！在耶和华大而可畏的日子来到之前，我必派遣先知以利亚到你们那里去。他必使父亲的心转向儿女，使儿女的心转向他们的父亲，以免我来击打这地、施行命定的灭绝。”

耶和华啊，求你侧耳听！耶和华啊，求你睁眼看！听听西纳基立派人来辱骂永生神的一切话！耶和华啊，亚述列王确实使列国和它们的国土荒废，又把它们的神像扔进火中；那些神像之所以被灭绝，是因为它们不是神，只不过是人手所造的，是用木头、石头造的！耶和华我们的神哪，现在求你拯救我们脱离亚述王的手，使地上万国都知道，唯独你——你是耶和华！”

那人说：“你的名字不要再叫雅各，而要叫以色列，因为你已经与神与人较力，并且得胜了。”

最后雅各独自留下。那夜，有一个人与雅各摔跤，直到黎明。

他将使许多以色列子民归向主——他们的神。他将藉着以利亚的灵和能力，在主的面前先行，使父亲的心转向儿女，使悖逆的人转向义人的智慧，好为主准备一群预备好了的子民。”

那人说：“天亮了，让我走吧！”雅各说：“你不祝福我，我就不让你走。”

所以你们当彼此认罪，彼此代求，好使你们得痊愈。义人所做的祈祷是大有力量的。以利亚和我们同样是人，但他用祷告来祈求不要降雨，果然地上三年零六个月没有降雨。
