孩子漸漸長大；這一天他出去到收割的人那裏、去找他父親。他對他父親說：『我的頭！我的頭！』他父親對僮僕說：『把他抱去給他母親。』僮僕把他抱去交給他母親；孩子坐在母親膝蓋上、到中午竟死了。

親愛的，別以你們中間的火煉、那加在你們身上來試驗你們的、為奇怪，而以為有希奇的事臨到了你們。

我的弟兄們，你們碰見各種試煉，要認為是大喜事，因為知道你們的信心被試驗及格，就能生出堅忍。但也要使堅忍有完全的功用，好使你們完全又完整，各方面都沒有缺欠。

你掩面，牠們便惶恐；你收回牠們的氣，牠們就死亡，仍歸於塵土。

他若將生氣收回於自己，將氣息收拾歸自己，

竟對着天上的主高抬自己，叫人把他殿中的器皿拿到你面前，你和你大臣、王后、妃嬪竟用這些器皿來喝酒；你又稱頌那些金銀銅鐵、木頭石頭的神，就是那些不能看、不能聽、不能知道的；至於那手中執掌你氣息、那管理你一生行程的上帝、你卻不將尊榮歸與他。

我必將恩慈之靈和懇求之靈傾注於大衛家和耶路撒冷的居民；他們必瞻望着他，就是他們所刺透的；他們必為他號哭，像喪獨生子而號哭一樣；也必為他憂苦，像喪長子而憂苦一樣。

這是要叫你們的信心被試驗為及格的、比那經火試驗還能銷滅的金子更寶貴得多多的、可以在耶穌基督顯示之時見為蒙受稱讚榮耀和尊重的。

她姊妹兩個就差遣人去見耶穌說：『主啊，請看，你所愛的人病了。』耶穌聽見了，卻說：『這病不至於死，乃是為了上帝的榮耀，要使上帝的兒子藉着這事而得到榮耀。』

於是耶穌就公開坦白地對他們說：『拉撒路死了。

眾生的性命都在他手中；一切血肉人的氣息全在手裏。

堅心忍受試煉的人是有福的；因為他既被試驗為良好，便可得着生命的華冠，就是上帝應許給愛他的人的。

身體沒有靈是死的，信心沒有行為也照樣是死的。
