各位蒙愛的人哪，當火一樣的考驗臨到你們中間，給你們試煉的時候，你們不要感到奇怪，好像發生了怪異的事。

我的弟兄們，你們遇到各種試煉的時候，應當看做是極大的喜樂，因為你們知道，你們的信仰經過考驗就生出忍耐；但要讓忍耐發揮完全的功效，好使你們成熟、完備，在任何事上都沒有缺欠。

你隱藏你的臉，牠們就惶恐；你收回牠們的氣息，牠們就斷氣，歸回塵土。

反而對天上的主高舉自己，讓人把他殿中的器皿帶到你面前來，你和你的大臣們、妻子們、妃嬪們都用這些來喝酒；你稱讚那些不能看、不能聽、不能知——用金、銀、銅、鐵、木、石所做的神明，卻不尊崇那位掌握你的氣息、掌握你一切道路的神。

「我必把恩惠和懇求的靈傾注於大衛家和耶路撒冷的居民。他們將仰望我，就是他們所刺的那一位。他們將為他哀哭，哀號如喪獨生子；他們將為他悲痛，悲痛如喪長子。

這些事以後，神試驗亞伯拉罕，對他說：「亞伯拉罕！」他說：「我在這裡！」神說：「帶上你的兒子，就是你所愛的獨生子以撒，往摩利亞地去；在我將要指示你的山上，把他獻為燔祭。」

好讓你們的信仰經過考驗，就比那被火煉過仍然會朽壞的金子更加寶貴，能在耶穌基督顯現的時候，被看為是可以得著稱讚、榮耀和尊貴的。

姐妹倆派人到耶穌那裡說：「主啊，你看，你所愛的人患了病。」耶穌聽了就說：「這病不至於死，而是為了神的榮耀，好使神的兒子由此得榮耀。」

於是耶穌明確地告訴他們：「拉撒路死了！

忍受試煉的人是蒙福的；因為他經過考驗以後，就要得到生命的冠冕，就是主應許給那些愛他之人的。

要知道，就像身體沒有靈魂是死的，照樣，信仰沒有行為也是死的。
