各位蒙爱的人哪，当火一样的考验临到你们中间，给你们试炼的时候，你们不要感到奇怪，好像发生了怪异的事。

我的弟兄们，你们遇到各种试炼的时候，应当看做是极大的喜乐，因为你们知道，你们的信仰经过考验就生出忍耐；但要让忍耐发挥完全的功效，好使你们成熟、完备，在任何事上都没有缺欠。

你隐藏你的脸，它们就惶恐；你收回它们的气息，它们就断气，归回尘土。

反而对天上的主高举自己，让人把他殿中的器皿带到你面前来，你和你的大臣们、妻子们、妃嫔们都用这些来喝酒；你称赞那些不能看、不能听、不能知——用金、银、铜、铁、木、石所做的神明，却不尊崇那位掌握你的气息、掌握你一切道路的神。

这些事以后，神试验亚伯拉罕，对他说：“亚伯拉罕！”他说：“我在这里！”神说：“带上你的儿子，就是你所爱的独生子以撒，往摩利亚地去；在我将要指示你的山上，把他献为燔祭。”

好让你们的信仰经过考验，就比那被火炼过仍然会朽坏的金子更加宝贵，能在耶稣基督显现的时候，被看为是可以得着称赞、荣耀和尊贵的。

姐妹俩派人到耶稣那里说：“主啊，你看，你所爱的人患了病。”耶稣听了就说：“这病不至于死，而是为了神的荣耀，好使神的儿子由此得荣耀。”

于是耶稣明确地告诉他们：“拉撒路死了！

忍受试炼的人是蒙福的；因为他经过考验以后，就要得到生命的冠冕，就是主应许给那些爱他之人的。

要知道，就像身体没有灵魂是死的，照样，信仰没有行为也是死的。
