He not only considered it trivial to commit the sins of Jeroboam son of Nebat, but he also married Jezebel daughter of Ethbaal king of the Sidonians, and began to serve Baal and worship him.

He thought it was only a small thing to commit the sins Jeroboam, the son of Nebat, had committed. Ahab also married Jezebel. She was Ethbaal’s daughter. Ethbaal was king of the people of Sidon. Ahab began to serve the god named Baal and worship him.

And as if it had been a light thing for him to walk in the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, he took for his wife Jezebel the daughter of Ethbaal king of the Sidonians, and went and served Baal and worshiped him.

And as though it were not enough to follow the sinful example of Jeroboam, he married Jezebel, the daughter of King Ethbaal of the Sidonians, and he began to bow down in worship of Baal.

And they left all the commandments of the LORD their God, and made them molten images,[ even] two calves, and made a grove, and worshipped all the host of heaven, and served Baal.

Then the five men departed, and came to Laish, and saw the people that[ were] therein, how they dwelt careless, after the manner of the Zidonians, quiet and secure; and[ there was] no magistrate in the land, that might put[ them] to shame in[ any] thing; and they[ were] far from the Zidonians, and had no business with[ any] man.

And Jehu gathered all the people together, and said unto them, Ahab served Baal a little;[ but] Jehu shall serve him much.

Neither shalt thou make marriages with them; thy daughter thou shalt not give unto his son, nor his daughter shalt thou take unto thy son.For they will turn away thy son from following me, that they may serve other gods: so will the anger of the LORD be kindled against you, and destroy thee suddenly.

And the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the LORD, and served Baalim:

But there was none like unto Ahab, which did sell himself to work wickedness in the sight of the LORD, whom Jezebel his wife stirred up.And he did very abominably in following idols, according to all[ things] as did the Amorites, whom the LORD cast out before the children of Israel.

Then he said unto me, Hast thou seen[ this], O son of man? Is it a light thing to the house of Judah that they commit the abominations which they commit here? for they have filled the land with violence, and have returned to provoke me to anger: and, lo, they put the branch to their nose.

And the children of Israel did evil again in the sight of the LORD, and served Baalim, and Ashtaroth, and the gods of Syria, and the gods of Zidon, and the gods of Moab, and the gods of the children of Ammon, and the gods of the Philistines, and forsook the LORD, and served not him.

For it was[ so], when Jezebel cut off the prophets of the LORD, that Obadiah took an hundred prophets, and hid them by fifty in a cave, and fed them with bread and water.)

The Zidonians also, and the Amalekites, and the Maonites, did oppress you; and ye cried to me, and I delivered you out of their hand.

For it came to pass, when Solomon was old,[ that] his wives turned away his heart after other gods: and his heart was not perfect with the LORD his God, as[ was] the heart of David his father.For Solomon went after Ashtoreth the goddess of the Zidonians, and after Milcom the abomination of the Ammonites.And Solomon did evil in the sight of the LORD, and went not fully after the LORD, as[ did] David his father.Then did Solomon build an high place for Chemosh, the abomination of Moab, in the hill that[ is] before Jerusalem, and for Molech, the abomination of the children of Ammon.And likewise did he for all his strange wives, which burnt incense and sacrificed unto their gods.

But Jezebel his wife came to him, and said unto him, Why is thy spirit so sad, that thou eatest no bread?And he said unto her, Because I spake unto Naboth the Jezreelite, and said unto him, Give me thy vineyard for money; or else, if it please thee, I will give thee[ another] vineyard for it: and he answered, I will not give thee my vineyard.And Jezebel his wife said unto him, Dost thou now govern the kingdom of Israel? arise,[ and] eat bread, and let thine heart be merry: I will give thee the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite.So she wrote letters in Ahab’s name, and sealed[ them] with his seal, and sent the letters unto the elders and to the nobles that[ were] in his city, dwelling with Naboth.And she wrote in the letters, saying, Proclaim a fast, and set Naboth on high among the people:And set two men, sons of Belial, before him, to bear witness against him, saying, Thou didst blaspheme God and the king. And[ then] carry him out, and stone him, that he may die.And the men of his city,[ even] the elders and the nobles who were the inhabitants in his city, did as Jezebel had sent unto them,[ and] as it[ was] written in the letters which she had sent unto them.They proclaimed a fast, and set Naboth on high among the people.And there came in two men, children of Belial, and sat before him: and the men of Belial witnessed against him,[ even] against Naboth, in the presence of the people, saying, Naboth did blaspheme God and the king. Then they carried him forth out of the city, and stoned him with stones, that he died.Then they sent to Jezebel, saying, Naboth is stoned, and is dead.

Else if ye do in any wise go back, and cleave unto the remnant of these nations,[ even] these that remain among you, and shall make marriages with them, and go in unto them, and they to you:Know for a certainty that the LORD your God will no more drive out[ any of] these nations from before you; but they shall be snares and traps unto you, and scourges in your sides, and thorns in your eyes, until ye perish from off this good land which the LORD your God hath given you.

And when Jehu was come to Jezreel, Jezebel heard[ of it]; and she painted her face, and tired her head, and looked out at a window.And as Jehu entered in at the gate, she said,[ Had] Zimri peace, who slew his master?And he lifted up his face to the window, and said, Who[ is] on my side? who? And there looked out to him two[ or] three eunuchs.And he said, Throw her down. So they threw her down: and[ some] of her blood was sprinkled on the wall, and on the horses: and he trode her under foot.And when he was come in, he did eat and drink, and said, Go, see now this cursed[ woman], and bury her: for she[ is] a king’s daughter.And they went to bury her: but they found no more of her than the skull, and the feet, and the palms of[ her] hands.Wherefore they came again, and told him. And he said, This[ is] the word of the LORD, which he spake by his servant Elijah the Tishbite, saying, In the portion of Jezreel shall dogs eat the flesh of Jezebel:And the carcase of Jezebel shall be as dung upon the face of the field in the portion of Jezreel;[ so] that they shall not say, This[ is] Jezebel.

Now therefore send,[ and] gather to me all Israel unto mount Carmel, and the prophets of Baal four hundred and fifty, and the prophets of the groves four hundred, which eat at Jezebel’s table.

In those days also saw I Jews[ that] had married wives of Ashdod, of Ammon,[ and] of Moab:And their children spake half in the speech of Ashdod, and could not speak in the Jews’ language, but according to the language of each people.And I contended with them, and cursed them, and smote certain of them, and plucked off their hair, and made them swear by God,[ saying], Ye shall not give your daughters unto their sons, nor take their daughters unto your sons, or for yourselves.Did not Solomon king of Israel sin by these things? yet among many nations was there no king like him, who was beloved of his God, and God made him king over all Israel: nevertheless even him did outlandish women cause to sin.Shall we then hearken unto you to do all this great evil, to transgress against our God in marrying strange wives?And[ one] of the sons of Joiada, the son of Eliashib the high priest,[ was] son in law to Sanballat the Horonite: therefore I chased him from me.Remember them, O my God, because they have defiled the priesthood, and the covenant of the priesthood, and of the Levites.

And Ahab told Jezebel all that Elijah had done, and withal how he had slain all the prophets with the sword.Then Jezebel sent a messenger unto Elijah, saying, So let the gods do[ to me], and more also, if I make not thy life as the life of one of them by tomorrow about this time.

And she said unto her,[ Is it] a small matter that thou hast taken my husband? and wouldest thou take away my son’s mandrakes also? And Rachel said, Therefore he shall lie with thee to night for thy son’s mandrakes.

Moreover thou hast taken thy sons and thy daughters, whom thou hast borne unto me, and these hast thou sacrificed unto them to be devoured.[ Is this] of thy whoredoms a small matter,

Yet hast thou not walked after their ways, nor done after their abominations: but, as[ if that were] a very little[ thing], thou wast corrupted more than they in all thy ways.

Notwithstanding I have a few things against thee, because thou sufferest that woman Jezebel, which calleth herself a prophetess, to teach and to seduce my servants to commit fornication, and to eat things sacrificed unto idols.

But king Solomon loved many strange women, together with the daughter of Pharaoh, women of the Moabites, Ammonites, Edomites, Zidonians,[ and] Hittites;Of the nations[ concerning] which the LORD said unto the children of Israel, Ye shall not go in to them, neither shall they come in unto you:[ for] surely they will turn away your heart after their gods: Solomon clave unto these in love.

[ Seemeth it] a small thing unto you to have eaten up the good pasture, but ye must tread down with your feet the residue of your pastures? and to have drunk of the deep waters, but ye must foul the residue with your feet?

That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they[ were] fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose.

And he said, Hear ye now, O house of David;[ Is it] a small thing for you to weary men, but will ye weary my God also?
