He followed completely the ways of Jeroboam son of Nebat, committing the same sin Jeroboam had caused Israel to commit, so that they aroused the anger of the Lord, the God of Israel, by their worthless idols.

He lived the way Jeroboam, the son of Nebat, had lived. He committed the same sin Jeroboam had caused Israel to commit. Israel made the Lord very angry. They did it by worshiping worthless statues of gods. The Lord is the God of Israel.

For he walked in all the way of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, and in the sins that he made Israel to sin, provoking the Lord, the God of Israel, to anger by their idols.

外邦虛無的神明中有能降雨的嗎？天能自降甘霖嗎？耶和華－我們的上帝啊，不是你嗎？我們要等候你，因為這一切都是你所造的。

耶羅波安心裏說：「現在，這國恐怕仍會歸大衛家；這百姓若上耶路撒冷去，在耶和華的殿裏獻祭，他們的心必歸向他們的主猶大王羅波安。他們會殺了我，仍歸猶大王羅波安。」耶羅波安王就籌劃，鑄造了兩個金牛犢，對眾百姓說：「你們上耶路撒冷去實在夠久了。以色列啊，看哪，這是領你出埃及地的神明。」他把一個安置在伯特利，另一個安置在但。這事使百姓陷入罪裏，因為他們甚至到但去拜那牛犢。耶羅波安在一些丘壇建神殿，立不屬利未人的平民百姓為祭司。耶羅波安定八月十五日為節期，像在猶大的節期一樣，自己上壇獻祭。他在伯特利這樣做，向他所鑄的牛犢獻祭，又把他所立丘壇的祭司安置在伯特利。他在八月十五日，就是他自己心中所定的月份，在伯特利上到自己所造的祭壇；他為以色列人定了一個節期，親自上壇燒香。

耶和華啊，你是我的力量，是我的保障，在患難之日是我的避難所。列國的人必從地極來到你這裏，說：「我們祖先所承受的，不過是虛假，是虛空無益之物。

萬民的習俗是虛空的；偶像不過是從樹林中砍來的木頭，是匠人用斧頭做成的手工。

這事以後，耶羅波安仍不離開他的惡道，立平民百姓為丘壇的祭司；凡願意的，他都分別為聖，立為丘壇的祭司。這事使耶羅波安的家陷入罪裏，甚至他的家被剪除，從地面上消滅了。

我恨惡那信奉虛無神明的人；我卻倚靠耶和華。

「我既從塵埃中提拔你，立你作我百姓以色列的君王，你竟行耶羅波安所行的道，使我的百姓以色列陷入罪裏，以他們的罪惹我發怒，

我的百姓竟忘記我，向那虛無的神明燒香，它們使百姓在所行的路上、在古道上絆跌，去行未修築的斜路，

他們如同畜牲，盡都愚昧。偶像的訓誨算甚麼呢？偶像不過是木頭，

「諸位，為甚麼做這些事呢？我們也是人，性情和你們一樣。我們傳福音給你們，是要你們離棄這些虛妄的事，歸向那創造天、地、海和其中萬物的永生的上帝。

聽啊，是我百姓呼救的聲音從遠地傳來：「耶和華不是在錫安嗎？錫安的王不是在其中嗎？」「他們為甚麼以自己雕刻的偶像和外邦虛無的神明惹我發怒呢？」
