So when Ahijah heard her footsteps at the door, he called out,“ Come in, wife of Jeroboam! Why are you pretending to be someone else?” Then he told her,“ I have bad news for you.

So when Ahijah heard the sound of her feet coming in the doorway, he said,“ Come in, wife of Jeroboam; why do you make yourself unrecognizable? Nevertheless, I am sent to you with a harsh message.

And so it was, when Ahijah heard the sound of her footsteps as she came through the door, he said,“ Come in, wife of Jeroboam. Why do you pretend to be another person? For I have been sent to you with bad news.

And it was so, when Ahijah heard the sound of her feet, as she came in at the door, that he said, Come in, thou wife of Jeroboam; why feignest thou thyself to be another? for I am sent to thee with heavy tidings.

When Ahijah heard the sound of her feet entering the door, he said,“ Come in, wife of Jeroboam! Why are you disguised? I have bad news for you.

And it was[ so], when Ahijah heard the sound of her feet, as she came in at the door, that he said, Come in, thou wife of Jeroboam; why feignest thou thyself[ to be] another? for I[ am] sent to thee[ with] heavy[ tidings].

So when Ahijah heard the sound of her feet as she came in at the door, he said,“ Come in, Jeroboam’s wife! Why do you pretend to be another? For I am sent to you with heavy news.

But Daniel replied to the king,“ Keep your gifts, and give your rewards to someone else! However, I will read the writing for the king and make known its interpretation.As for you, O king, the most high God bestowed on your father Nebuchadnezzar a kingdom, greatness, honor, and majesty.Due to the greatness that he bestowed on him, all peoples, nations, and language groups were trembling with fear before him. He killed whom he wished, he spared whom he wished, he exalted whom he wished, and he brought low whom he wished.And when his mind became arrogant and his spirit filled with pride, he was deposed from his royal throne and his honor was removed from him.He was driven from human society, his mind was changed to that of an animal, he lived with the wild donkeys, he was fed grass like oxen, and his body became damp with the dew of the sky, until he came to understand that the most high God rules over human kingdoms, and he appoints over them whomever he wishes.“ But you, his son Belshazzar, have not humbled yourself, although you knew all this.Instead, you have exalted yourself against the Lord of heaven. You brought before you the vessels from his temple, and you and your nobles, together with your wives and concubines, drank wine from them. You praised the gods of silver, gold, bronze, iron, wood, and stone– gods that cannot see or hear or comprehend! But you have not glorified the God who has in his control your very breath and all your ways!Therefore the palm of a hand was sent from him, and this writing was inscribed.“ This is the writing that was inscribed: MENE, MENE, TEQEL, and PHARSIN.This is the interpretation of the words: As for mene– God has numbered your kingdom’s days and brought it to an end.As for teqel– you are weighed on the balances and found to be lacking.As for peres– your kingdom is divided and given over to the Medes and Persians.”

He catches the wise in their own craftiness, and the counsel of the cunning is brought to a quick end.

But the LORD had told Ahijah,“ Look, Jeroboam’s wife is coming to find out from you what will happen to her son, for he is sick. Tell her so-and-so. When she comes, she will be in a disguise.”

Then Samuel said to Saul,“ Wait a minute! Let me tell you what the LORD said to me last night.” Saul said to him,“ Tell me.”

For the Son of Man will go as it is written about him, but woe to that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It would be better for him if he had never been born.”

For when anyone from the house of Israel, or the foreigner who lives in Israel, separates himself from me and erects his idols in his heart and sets the obstacle leading to his iniquity before his face, and then consults a prophet to seek something from me, I the LORD am determined to answer him personally.I will set my face against that person and will make him an object lesson and a byword and will cut him off from among my people. Then you will know that I am the LORD.

Then Daniel( whose name is also Belteshazzar) was upset for a brief time; his thoughts were alarming him. The king said,“ Belteshazzar, don’t let the dream and its interpretation alarm you.” But Belteshazzar replied,“ Sir, if only the dream were for your enemies and its interpretation applied to your adversaries!The tree that you saw that grew large and strong, whose top reached to the sky, and which could be seen in all the land,whose foliage was attractive and its fruit plentiful, and from which there was food available for all, under whose branches wild animals used to live, and in whose branches birds of the sky used to nest–it is you, O king! For you have become great and strong. Your greatness is such that it reaches to heaven, and your authority to the ends of the earth.As for the king seeing a holy sentinel coming down from heaven and saying,‘ Chop down the tree and destroy it, but leave its taproot in the ground, with a band of iron and bronze around it, surrounded by the grass of the field. Let it become damp with the dew of the sky, and let it live with the wild animals, until seven periods of time go by for him’–this is the interpretation, O king! It is the decision of the Most High that this has happened to my lord the king.You will be driven from human society, and you will live with the wild animals. You will be fed grass like oxen, and you will become damp with the dew of the sky. Seven periods of time will pass by for you, before you understand that the Most High is ruler over human kingdoms and gives them to whomever he wishes.

Then they watched him carefully and sent spies who pretended to be sincere. They wanted to take advantage of what he might say so that they could deliver him up to the authority and jurisdiction of the governor.Thus they asked him,“ Teacher, we know that you speak and teach correctly, and show no partiality, but teach the way of God in accordance with the truth.Is it right for us to pay the tribute tax to Caesar or not?”But Jesus perceived their deceit and said to them,

The king of Israel answered Jehoshaphat,“ There is still one man through whom we can seek the LORD’s will. But I despise him because he does not prophesy prosperity for me, but disaster. His name is Micaiah son of Imlah. Jehoshaphat said,“ The king should not say such things.”

But Peter said,“ Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and keep back for yourself part of the proceeds from the sale of the land?Before it was sold, did it not belong to you? And when it was sold, was the money not at your disposal? How have you thought up this deed in your heart? You have not lied to people but to God!”When Ananias heard these words he collapsed and died, and great fear gripped all who heard about it.

“ Son of man, these men have erected their idols in their hearts and placed the obstacle leading to their iniquity right before their faces. Should I really allow them to seek me?Therefore speak to them and say to them,‘ This is what the sovereign LORD says: When any one from the house of Israel erects his idols in his heart and sets the obstacle leading to his iniquity before his face, and then consults a prophet, I the LORD am determined to answer him personally according to the enormity of his idolatry.I will do this in order to capture the hearts of the house of Israel, who have alienated themselves from me on account of all their idols.’

“ Please ask the LORD to come and help us, because King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon is attacking us. Maybe the LORD will perform one of his miracles as in times past and make him stop attacking us and leave.”Jeremiah answered them,“ Tell Zedekiahthat the LORD, the God of Israel, says,‘ The forces at your disposal are now outside the walls fighting against King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon and the Babylonians who have you under siege. I will gather those forces back inside the city.In anger, in fury, and in wrath I myself will fight against you with my mighty power and great strength!I will kill everything living in Jerusalem, people and animals alike! They will die from terrible diseases.Then I, the LORD, promise that I will hand over King Zedekiah of Judah, his officials, and any of the people who survive the war, starvation, and disease. I will hand them over to King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon and to their enemies who want to kill them. He will slaughter them with the sword. He will not show them any mercy, compassion, or pity.’

The people to whom I am sending you are obstinate and hard-hearted, and you must say to them,‘ This is what the sovereign LORD says.’And as for them, whether they listen or not– for they are a rebellious house– they will know that a prophet has been among them.

The prophet then said to him,“ This is what the LORD says,‘ Because you released a man I had determined should die, you will pay with your life and your people will suffer instead of his people.’”

“ Get up, go down and meet King Ahab of Israel who lives in Samaria. He is at the vineyard of Naboth; he has gone down there to take possession of it.Say to him,‘ This is what the LORD says:“ Haven’t you committed murder and taken possession of the property of the deceased?”’ Then say to him,‘ This is what the LORD says:“ In the spot where dogs licked up Naboth’s blood they will also lick up your blood– yes, yours!”’”When Elijah arrived, Ahab said to him,“ So, you have found me, my enemy!” Elijah replied,“ I have found you, because you are committed to doing evil in the sight of the LORD.The LORD says,‘ Look, I am ready to bring disaster on you. I will destroy you and cut off every last male belonging to Ahab in Israel, including even the weak and incapacitated.I will make your dynasty like those of Jeroboam son of Nebat and Baasha son of Ahijah because you angered me and made Israel sin.’The LORD says this about Jezebel,‘ Dogs will devour Jezebel by the outer wall of Jezreel.’As for Ahab’s family, dogs will eat the ones who die in the city, and the birds of the sky will eat the ones who die in the country.”

So I am ready to bring disaster on the dynasty of Jeroboam. I will cut off every last male belonging to Jeroboam in Israel, including even the weak and incapacitated. I will burn up the dynasty of Jeroboam, just as one burns manure until it is completely consumed.Dogs will eat the members of your family who die in the city, and the birds of the sky will eat the ones who die in the country.”’ Indeed, the LORD has announced it!

Jeroboam told his wife,“ Disguise yourself so that people cannot recognize you are Jeroboam’s wife. Then go to Shiloh; Ahijah the prophet, who told me I would rule over this nation, lives there.

The LORD frustrates the decisions of the nations; he nullifies the plans of the peoples.

Peter then told her,“ Why have you agreed together to test the Spirit of the Lord? Look! The feet of those who have buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out!”At once she collapsed at his feet and died. So when the young men came in, they found her dead, and they carried her out and buried her beside her husband.

And no creature is hidden from God, but everything is naked and exposed to the eyes of him to whom we must render an account.

Since you did not obey the LORD and did not carry out his fierce anger against the Amalekites, the LORD has done this thing to you today.

Samuel said to Saul,“ I will not go back with you, for you have rejected the word of the LORD, and the LORD has rejected you from being king over Israel!”

While they were sitting at the table, the LORD spoke through the old prophetand he cried out to the prophet from Judah,“ This is what the LORD says,‘ You have rebelled against the LORD and have not obeyed the command the LORD your God gave you.You went back and ate and drank in this place, even though he said to you,“ Do not eat or drink there.” Therefore your corpse will not be buried in your ancestral tomb.’”
