有一天，以利在自己的地方睡覺。他的眼睛早已昏花，不能看見。

以利已經九十八歲了，眼目僵直，不能看見。

以撒年老的時候，眼睛衰弱，以致不能看見，就把他的大兒子以掃叫來，說：「我兒啊！」以掃說：「我在這裡！」

以色列的眼睛因年老昏花，不能看見。約瑟就讓他們靠近他；他就親吻他們，擁抱他們。

在那日，看守家的顫抖，強壯的男人彎腰，推磨的女人因為人少而停工，向窗外看的人眼目昏暗；

我們一生的日子，是七十歲，如果強壯，可到八十歲；但其中可誇耀的，不過是勞苦愁煩，轉瞬即逝，我們就如飛而去。

軍隊回到營地中，以色列的長老們說：「為什麼今天耶和華讓我們敗在非利士人面前呢？我們把耶和華的約櫃從示羅帶到我們這裡吧，讓約櫃來到我們當中，拯救我們脫離仇敵的手！」於是民眾派人去示羅，從那裡把坐在基路伯之上的萬軍之耶和華的約櫃抬來，以利的兩個兒子何弗尼和非尼哈也跟著神的約櫃來了。
