以色列人暗中做不義之事，冒犯他們的上帝耶和華。從瞭望塔到堅城，他們在各地建邱壇，在各高崗上、綠樹下立神柱和亞舍拉神像，

他重建他父親希西迦拆毀的邱壇，效法以色列王亞哈為巴力築造祭壇，製造亞舍拉神像，並且祭拜和供奉天上的萬象。耶和華曾指著祂的殿說：「我的名必在耶路撒冷」，而他卻在耶和華的殿內建造異教的祭壇。他在耶和華殿的兩個院子裡建造祭拜天上萬象的祭壇；他燒死自己的兒子，獻作祭物；他行邪術，占卜，求問靈媒和巫師，做了許多耶和華視為惡的事，惹耶和華發怒。他雕刻亞舍拉神像，放在耶和華的殿中。關於這殿，耶和華曾對大衛和他兒子所羅門說：「我從以色列各支派中選擇了耶路撒冷和這殿，我的名要在這裡永遠受尊崇。

當我引領他們進入我曾起誓要賜給他們的土地時，他們在所見的每一處高山或密林獻祭，焚燒馨香的祭牲，向偶像奠酒，惹我發怒。我問他們，你們所去的高處是什麼地方？』從此，那高處一直叫巴麻。

他們的兒女沒有忘記綠樹下、高崗上、

耶和華將擊打以色列人，使他們像水中的蘆葦一樣顫抖不已。耶和華將把以色列人從祂賜給他們祖先的佳美之地連根拔起，拋散到幼發拉底河的彼岸，這都是因為他們製造亞舍拉神像，惹耶和華發怒。

我要從你們中間剷除亞舍拉神像，毀滅你們的偶像。

「你們不可為自己製造偶像，不可豎立神像和神柱，也不可在你們境內安放祭拜用的石像。我是你們的上帝耶和華。

「很久以前，我折斷你的軛，解開你的捆索，你卻拒絕事奉我，在各高崗上、綠樹下躺臥淫亂。

他還在邱壇、山岡和綠樹下獻祭燒香。

也不可豎立神柱，因為這些是你們的上帝耶和華所憎惡的。

『你必須要承認自己的罪，承認背叛了你的上帝耶和華，在綠蔭樹下祭拜各種外邦的神明，不聽從我的話。』這是耶和華說的。

那時候，用來尊崇耶和華之名的殿還沒有建成，以色列人仍然在邱壇獻祭。
