The Lord gave me a command. He said,‘ Do not eat bread or drink water there. Do not return the same way you came.’ ”

For I was commanded by the word of the Lord:‘ You must not eat bread or drink water or return by the way you came.’”

for so was it commanded me by the word of the Lord, saying,‘ You shall neither eat bread nor drink water nor return by the way that you came.’”

For the Lord gave me this command:‘ You must not eat or drink anything while you are there, and do not return to Judah by the same way you came.’”

for this is what I was commanded by the word of the LORD:‘ You must not eat food or drink water or go back the way you came.’”

For so it was commanded me by the word of the Lord, saying,‘ You shall not eat bread nor drink water, nor return by the way that you came.’ ”

for so was it commanded me by Yahweh’s word, saying,‘ You shall eat no bread, drink no water, and don’t return by the way that you came.’”

Don’t let my heart be drawn to what is evil. Don’t let me join with people who do evil. Don’t let me eat their fancy food.

I haven’t disobeyed his commands. I’ve treasured his words more than my daily bread.

You hear that people who cause trouble have appeared among you. They’ve tried to get the people of their town to do something wrong. They’ve said,“ Let’s go and worship other gods.” But you haven’t known anything about those gods before.So you must ask people some questions. You must check out the matter carefully. If it’s true, an evil thing has really happened among you. It’s something the Lord hates.Then you must certainly kill with your swords everyone who lives in that town. You must destroy it completely. You must wipe out its people and livestock.You must gather all the goods of that town into the middle of the main street. You must burn the town completely. You must burn up everything in it. It’s a whole burnt offering to the Lord your God. The town must remain a pile of stones forever. It must never be built again.Don’t keep anything that should be destroyed. Then the Lord will turn away from his great anger. He will show you mercy. He’ll have deep concern for you. He’ll cause there to be many of you. That’s what he promised your people of long ago. He gave his word when he made the promise.The Lord your God will do those things if you obey him. I’m giving you his commands today. And you must obey all of them. You must do what is right in his eyes.

You are my friends if you do what I command.

Now you know these things. So you will be blessed if you do them.

I am warning you, brothers and sisters, to watch out for those who try to keep you from staying together. They want to trip you up. They teach you things opposite to what you have learned. Stay away from them.

He cried out to the man who had come from Judah. He told him,“ The Lord says,‘ You have not done what I told you to do. You have not obeyed the command I gave you. I am the Lord your God.You came back here and ate bread and drank water. You did it in the place where I told you not to. So your body will not be buried in your family tomb.’ ”

A man of God went from Judah to Bethel. He had received a message from the Lord. He arrived in Bethel just as Jeroboam was standing by the altar to offer a sacrifice.

“ Just as the Father has loved me, I have loved you. Now remain in my love.If you obey my commands, you will remain in my love. In the same way, I have obeyed my Father’s commands and remain in his love.

Moses warned the community. He said,“ Move away from the tents of these evil men! Don’t touch anything that belongs to them. If you do, the Lord will sweep you away because of all their sins.”

But Samuel replied,“ What pleases the Lord more? Burnt offerings and sacrifices, or obeying the Lord? It is better to obey than to offer a sacrifice. It is better to do what he says than to offer the fat of rams.

Then I heard another voice from heaven. It said,“‘ Come out of her, my people.’( Jeremiah 51:45) Then you will not take part in her sins. You will not suffer from any of her plagues.

But here is what I am writing to you now. You must stay away from anyone who claims to be a believer but does evil things. Stay away from anyone who commits sexual sins. Stay away from anyone who always wants more and more things. Stay away from anyone who worships statues of gods. Stay away from anyone who tells lies about others. Stay away from anyone who gets drunk or who cheats. Don’t even eat with people like these.

Have nothing to do with the acts of darkness. They don’t produce anything good. Show what they are really like.
