After burying him, he said to his sons,“ When I die, bury me in the grave where the man of God is buried; lay my bones beside his bones.

Don’t disturb his bones.” So they did not burn his bones or those of the old prophet from Samaria.

Who can count Jacob’s descendants, as numerous as dust? Who can count even a fourth of Israel’s people? Let me die like the righteous; let my life end like theirs.”

I have seen wicked people buried with honor. Yet they were the very ones who frequented the Temple and are now praised in the same city where they committed their crimes! This, too, is meaningless.

“ Finally, the poor man died and was carried by the angels to sit beside Abraham at the heavenly banquet. The rich man also died and was buried,and he went to the place of the dead. There, in torment, he saw Abraham in the far distance with Lazarus at his side.

Don’t let me suffer the fate of sinners. Don’t condemn me along with murderers.
