But Rehoboam rejected the advice the elders gave him and consulted the young men who had grown up with him and were serving him.

你要聽勸告，受管教，好使你將來作個有智慧的人。

王不接受這些老人的意見，卻去和那些同他一起長大，侍立在他面前的年輕人商議，

你們既輕忽我的一切勸告，不肯接受我的責備；

因此，耶和華向亞瑪謝發怒，於是差派一位先知去見他，對他說：“這民族的神不能拯救自己的人民脫離你的手，你為甚麼還尋求它們呢？”先知向王講話的時候，王對他說：“我們立了你作王的謀士嗎？住口吧！你要挨打嗎？”先知就住口，可是又說：“我知道神已定意消滅你，因為你作了這事，又不聽從我的勸戒。”

不接受我的勸告，輕視我的一切責備；

智慧人的心向右，愚昧人的心偏左。愚昧人連走路的時候，也顯出無知；他對每一個人表現出他是個愚昧人（“他對每一個人表現出他是個愚昧人”或譯：“他稱每一個人都是愚昧的”）。

要使人曉得智慧和教訓，了解充滿哲理的言語；使人領受明慧的教訓，就是公義、公正和正直；使愚蒙人變成精明，使少年人獲得知識和明辨的能力；使智慧人聽了，可以增長學問，使聰明人聽了，可以獲得智謀；

智慧人的責備在聽從的人耳中，好像金耳環和精金的飾物。
